On closer inspection this is a very odd bit of click bait.

It gives the impression that Izzard has demanded that he/she (it’s really beyond me all this stuff) be called ‘she’ and ‘a woman’. In fact Eddie has explicitly said she/he doesn’t care what other people call him,/her (****ing hell this is tedious), so no one is asking Rosie Duffield or Paul Embrey to use any particular pronoun in reference to Izzard.

So what is this odd tweet about? It seems that Duffield might be upset that Izzard, who is interested in standing for Parliament for Labour, might get on an all woman shortlist. Duffield has said that she’ll leave the party if this happens. This would indeed be a very challenging situation. But Labour has ceased to have all women shortlists, the policy was binned in March. More than half of Labour MPs are women (real biological women as far as I can tell).

Looks like a manufactured bit of rubbish to wind up the socially conservative/ Blue Labour element. It’s a real shame, because Duffield has been the subject of genuine disgraceful abuse from extreme trans rights idiots, and Labour has a very confused stance on all this stuff, because they don’t know if they are a centre-left ersatz socialist party or a coalition of identity politicians. The curse of the mildly left wing, ‘let’s not upset anyone’ tendency, I suppose, although in terms of Labour the more militant elements seem to have stirred this up, presumably with the mistaken idea that they can control these diverse factions in some Trojan horse power bid post Corbyn.

Going to be interesting when/if this lot get to form a government.

You can always rely on someone to manufacture outrage about gender-neutral toilets or something equally trivial when there are a thousand bigger issues. Just a shame it’s from a Labour MP when it’s normally done right wing sex case like Darren Grimes or Adam Brooks.

There is a serious issue behind this, of course, that can best be summed up by the question, what is a woman?

Apparently, Duffield has set up a cross party biology unit (with Tory Ann Jenkin and SDP Joanna Cherry) to scrutinise public sector policies based on gender identity theories. They are concerned that such policies ignore fact and science in favour of ideological issues at the expense of women and girls. The battleground on this one is huge.

Well, they assume that the Tories are best for the country full stop, I imagine, the party and the country are the same thing to them, so what’s good for the party is good for the country.

After all the alternatives are those filthy heathens called liberals or, god forbid, lock up your daughters, socialists.

Yeah, cos the Liberals and Socialists are all for country first.....

My arse!

Be nice if you ever commented about women and girls rights or safety at any other time other than when it involves trans people, as let’s face it you don’t.

If we look at who oppresses and endangers women either historically or most importantly currently it’s … trans people, only kidding of course it’s men.

It would be nice if you at least acknowledged that otherwise the more skeptical among us might think your concern isn’t really about a genuine concern for women, but an anti trans stance with no real evidence, facts, statistics to back that up.

They might put policies in place that help people who need help rather than trying to give tax cuts to the wealthy and crashing the economy in the process. Keep being an apologist though.

I'm an apologist for no one.
I've already said the Tories don't deserve to remain in office and that there should be a GE.
Don't let the facts get in the way of your jibes though.

You were crying that Truss deserved a chance and it was just lefties on here calling her a **** **** because she’s a Tory a few weeks ago.

It is sad you have such a jaundice view Col

There are a lot of politicians of all hues, that actually are in it to make their community and their country a better place to live. They may have different thoughts on how to do it, but fundamentally they want everyone to live better (yes there are a some, and I don't need to name them, that think of it as a way to make a buck, as a way for an ego trip etc.

But a lot are there because they want to leave a legacy.

I'm more than happy to agree that historically women were oppressed by men, right up into the C20th. But that is historic, and we are talking about now and the future.

Trans rights v womens rights is a huge topical issue in the way the suffragette movement was. If a man transitions to a woman surgically, she should be supported by society. Less than that however, they remain men or become trans men, but they are not women imo. So I disagree with Kier Starmer that women can have penises. This, so far as I can see, is the Duffield/ JKRowland approach.

This is so true.

The oppressors of women historically are men.

Yes it is sad that there is such a womans movement against trans people but incidentally it is mostly against trans women, far less so trans men. Perhaps the answer to this is at the bottom of the problem.

Why can't everyone just get on with their lives.
I do not care what gender you are (it is none of my business), why should you care what gender I am. (it is non of your business).

Giving trans people rights doesn’t take away women’s rights. It’s a tiny, tiny issue given oxygen to distract from bigger issues by idiots.

It's a lot more complicated than that, Beth, involving fairness in sport, drag artists access to children in schools, security for women in toilets and changing rooms, serious issues for prisons, confusion in employment, the list goes on.

Can I take issue with this point Goldy...up to the C20th!!!!

This is still going on

when I retired 5 years ago, my pay was nearly £10,000 less than my male counterpart, because I missed out on promotions , because I was a woman...it was said to me once officially, once unofficially.

When younger I was propositioned in the street by men trying it on. My daughters still are. My youngest daughter lived right by where Sarah Everard was abducted...by a man.
These are my experiences

Women are still oppressed, it hasn't gone away
Trans people are just another group who can be easily "identified" and picked on...and I am really sorry some women are choosing to do it

I hear what you say about your own experience at work. It is quite wrong for it to have happened. I know about law and accountancy and it's very much a meritocracy. In fact, women have done so well in the legal profession that there are now more women than men applying.

Vile men will abduct young women agreed, but that is outside of what the law can provide, barring more police, suffer sentences etc

Women have justifiable grievances against the march of trans rights where the trans (man) retains male genitalia and, for sport, male hormones and testosterone. It's really that simple imo

And there we have anti trans propaganda in action.. in the same way the suffragettes? Are you for real?

Today and anytime in the near future women’s rights and safety are still almost exclusively at risk by, drum roll… yep it’s still men, go to any shelter to abused women… guess whose abusing them, look at violence, sexual attacks and murders on women, look at any inequality in the work place be that representation or pay gap. Look at religious oppression of women.. look at any oppression on women it’s almost exclusively always ****ing men.

Ah Jk Rowling the great advocate for women’s rights? Her and her mates yeah you might wanna dig a little deeper to this lot and their views on things like pro choice. Most of this group is funded by anti pro choice organisations such as religious groups. Never mind eh, and I’ll look out for your comments, outside of when it relates to trans, supporting women, I won’t hold my breath.
