Stratton describes herself as a ‘Johnson Tory’, is godparent to Sunaks kids (and vice versa), and is described as an ‘ally’ of Mrs Johnson.
Politics in this country, particularly I suspect Conservative politics, seems very similar to strategic manoeuvring amongst the aristocracy during the Middle Ages, forming blood bonds and ‘alliances’, switching allegiances as the opportunity for self promotion arises, making supposed sacrifices to gain credit for future benefits. All outside this febrile nest of incestuous plotting are treated as what they are - chattel, counters to be gambled with and then ignored, especially as it becomes clearer and clearer that blind obedience and unquestioning support is the defining characteristic of a certain type of English person - but not of those who make up the inner circle.
Are we yet at the stage that our leaders deliberately do more and more outrageous, corrupt and inexcusable **** in plain sight simply to generate the chance to deny it on telly and see how much they can get away with? Possibly, but it doesn’t matter, because they can get away with anything.
One thing they don’t seem to have is actual friends. Just ‘allies’.
The Labourites are more like the ever more splintered and doctrinaire Protestant factions arising out of the reformation, ideology with a religious tinge, all in possession of the single one truth…..they haven’t got any friends either, just members of the congregation, constantly under threat of being accused of heresy.
