How about a warning shot?

In this country, a verbal warning is required in most rules of engagement.
I suspect there may have been a verbal warning in this case, but the security guys may have had permission to shoot first. The close protection officers of high ranking politicians certainly would always shoot first in both countries.

Admittedly, UK armed police don't use it. They seem either not to shoot or go for a body shot. No middle way. There's obviously a police reason for this.

It amazes me that the politicians sheltering could not get behind a stout wooden door without windows.

Aim for the centre mass to stop any threat.

There was no warning that I could hear on the clip. If you're about to shoot an unarmed person dead, warning should be continuous imo. I'm sure I've heard the UK police giving continuous warnings, ever more urgent, designed to make the target think twice

Not in America. It's like the Wild West. Now I haven't seen all the pictures but if Will is right that the protesters were armed to the teeth. Then I would ask the question, why would they be allowed near government buildings? Surely if some fella has an automatic weapon on his back they must arrest him?

Because Trump ensured security was relaxed to allow his supporters in.
It turned to **** as they got further inside.

Absolutely, but as I say, it was maybe deemed an immediate threat to life and meant shooting to kill immediately.
If someone managed somehow to get through the outer security at 10 downing street and was running at the door with a backpack, what do you think would happen?

Waving them in wasn’t a good look. Anyone who was part of it without getting shot was incredibly fortunate and should be serving serious time.
I agree
It was public disorder of the highest. You know me and rules Watford. Lock them up! It really is sad all round but when you listen to some of the deluded protesters you can see why they do such things. One said "America was at war and they were ready" WTF!

I get that, although I don't think it's quite the same. What about EXR protesters at the gates of the House of Commons and a few run in... would they be shot? that's more like it.

Probably the better comparison would be Parliament. I think it is the lack of a warning or final warning that looks bad. I accept the difficulty for the security forces was the wide range of types of people making up Trump's mob - from elderly, middle class couples holding thermos flasks to a bloke apparently carrying a pipe bomb.

But to give that woman no final warning when she had a load of armed police behind her still looks wrong to me.

I'm not blaming those on duty, other than from the videos the compliance and maybe allowing selfies with these terrorists wasn't the best of ideas. The major questions have not been answered and as for the last one, with proper preparation, you've seen the armed guard that was there for the BLM protest, the end result would have been totally different and they wouldn't have been so badly outnumbered and outgunned! Can't remember ever hearing of a US government building being outgunned by a protest! And this was the Capitol building for **** sake!

One point I'll keep to bring up is that all it takes is for one of them to have been carrying a bomb, be that one of the good ol boys or someone infiltrating the group for their own means, it would have been extremely easy to do and the security have to prepare for that possibility

I believe 2 pipe bombs were found, 1 at least could have taken lives.

Agreed.
It depends on the vicinity of high ranking politicians.
Was the President in the Capitol building? I thought I heard he was but not sure?

Uk forces legally have to give a warning, which varies dependant upon the theatre of operations. We shoot to incapacitate the assailant - a mildly injured attacker (say shooting in the legs) can still cause untold damage, either with their own firearm or setting off suicide vest/bomb. I'd imagine the US forces will have similar guidance.

Paint it any way you wish though, if she hadn't attacked a government building she would be alive today. We all know how gung-ho the federal services in America can be, I'm just surprised the death toll isn't higher.

Such a "peaceful" protest has also led to the death of a police officer - it's time America had a serious, grown-up debate about their gun laws.

TBH I have only watched limited news stories on the whole thing Col. I am in no way sticking up for these idiots what they did was wrong and stupid. I also said after listening to a couple on the news, I can confirm that. I just thought the shooting was OTT. However I have only seen that video and I can't say that the officer didn't give her plenty of warning. Just an unnecessary waste of life.

Some of the rioters at the Capitol could face up to 10 years in jail for 'injury of Federal property' after Trump signed an executive order in July aimed at BLM protesters.:emoticon-0136-giggl

Probably a minority view, but imo the smartest thing Biden could do is pardon anyone involved when he takes office, on the condition that anyone involved admits their wrongdoing.
