The big difference in all this is she was part of an armed mob (terrorist group) who also had explosives on them going into a Government building, if they had no intention of violence why were they armed and carrying explosive devices? Considering the consequences of other terrorist attacks the big questions should be why were the security so ill prepared considering this was being planned back in December, why did some appear to allow them into the building and why they weren't dispersed with much greater force. This isn't out on the street, this isn't someone robbing this is an armed breach of a government building, there is no way of knowing the intentions of all of them and the consequences of just one persons actions had the potential of being catastrophic

She was attempting to get further into the capitol building wearing a backpack, whilst the secret service were pointing guns at her.
What resulted was inevitable and she was stupid in the extreme to try to get through.
The secret service were doing their job.

So when a cop in the US shoots a suspect who is known for carrying firearms and has a record as long as anything faces trial for defending himself. Is it okay for him to shoot first and ask questions later?

Oh can someone explain why one of the blokes inside had big cable ties? The clear assumption on that is the plan was to take and restrain hostages.

With the size of this group you have no way of knowing each individuals intentions and what they have on them, all it takes is one total nutter and the whole building with those inside could have been gone.

When you shoot someone you have to have good cause. That was a woman trying to get through a window blocked by chairs. It was just as easy for him to shoot lower and stop the CPD. that was OTT.
She was certainly naive and stupid. But there were armed cops positioned all the way down the stairs behind her. A number of the flag waving, Trump supporters had backpacks on. The likelihood that any were suicide bombers was incredibly small.
For me, common sense and discretion was missing from the security officer's action. If it had been in the UK, and an unarmed woman was trying to get into Parliament amongst a group of union jack flag wavers, I don't think she would have been shot with a firearm. The US is simply a lot more extreme in these cases, and I fear there are crazy, heavily armed "patriots" in the US that may want to exact revenge
Someone with a backpack breaking in as part of an angry mob is a pretty solid cause.
