I think the analogy with football fans is a fair one, except that when violent fans aren't supporting football, they're civilians doing normal jobs and they can hide behind that. As I say, those youths (I accept they are a minority) that resort to violence really play into the racist's stereotype of them

Not me fella.
As I said people can protest peacefully (plenty do) but.
If you think that injuring 27 policemen 2 in hospital (1 had surgery) throwing a bike at a women officer on a horse. defacing statues, trying to burn a flag on a war memorial, and attacking innocent people is okay then you are wrong.
The police won't put up with this for much longer.

For the black community (by which I mean African or West Indian origins) in general. We don't see Jewish people throwing stuff in Whitehall to complain about the Holocaust. We don't see Chinese people smashing their way to Trafalgar Square when they get mugged. What I've been watching on TV over the last couple of days is fodder for the racists. I'm sure the organisers of the marches realise that and are deeply dismayed.

I agree and it upsets me, there are plenty protesters, of which I am one, who have peacefully protested, caused no harm or damage, been responsible to a high degree with social distancing and this does distract, I also feel that some people are using the actions of a minority to ignore the issues and make it all about these few. I'm encouraging and will participate further protests, making sure I've used soap beforehand, maintaining a peaceful message and continue to be responsible. The movement must never stop, but do more to distance itself from the actions of the few

If I think? Where have I said that... Jeeeeeeeeez, ALL of your comments have been about the actions of the unruly few, making definitive statements. Not noticing anything about why the peaceful protesters are out there and that actions need to be taken in regards to equality.

Your attempting to debate with someone who says 'the message is getting lost' whilst not having a clue what the message is. Hilarious

It's because the ones causing the violence are ruining the message. They have for me and many others.
Just turn on the news... it's not about black lives anymore it's about violence.
Funny how these rotten few are never pulled up by the protesters?
 
I have posted this before on this thread, but think it's important. Think it was Clinton Morrison who said he had to explain to his children that some people will look at them differently call them names in an insulting ways, hate them purely for the colour of their skin. That is the world we are living in today!!! We need change, we need to eradicate racism, make it completely socially unacceptable and the public figures who use emotive, suggestive language need to be called out on their bullshit. We won't change society in a day, but we need to hammer home this need for change step by step, day on day

Like I said to Goldie the next time a 'football fan' does anything remotely wrong be that violence, destruction of property, you are happy for others to tar you with that brush? you are happy for others to suggest football be binned off because it doesn't matter that the majority can enjoy it without causing problems, but because of the actions of a few what the others do don't matter and shouldn't be considered?

You won't change it by attacking police and defacing memorials of people who gave their lives so you and others can demonstrate.

That is a really responsible approach, Will. That way, you take the public with you and build up huge pressure for change. I have to say I think most of the changes needed are to recruitment, training and disciplinary measures to the police forces on the other side of the Atlantic.

No, but one thing I do know is that when violence happens at football the news is never about the game or the thousands that went peacefully to a game? People aren't 'tarring' normal protesters. they are outraged at some who deface a national memorial.
They are lucky they can get away with it... look what happens in china.

Bob is right, you can't or refuse to look at the issues being protested by the majority of peaceful people causing no problems at all, you only focus, post after post on the actions of this unruly minority, nothing about supporting the actions of the peaceful majority.
