Are you ****ing joking? Colston a slave trader, after numerous requests for it to be removed, are you supporting the requests being ignored? Really? like I've responded to Stainsey I don't think that removal is at all contentious. What should be looked at here is why it wasn't removed previously. I've not suggested that others be removed at all, I've condemned a lot of the actions taken but you just throw a load of emotive language in there to suggest I've said otherwise. Please can you find anywhere I have apologised for the violence? Oh that's right I haven't Can you please retract your lie. Right can we have a look at why so many are peacefully protesting, and causing no damage? Or is that not something you want? Thanks in advance
This wont go down too well on here but....here goes, People are taking action against decades and centuries of racism, inequality, poverty etc. The george floyd murder was a catalyst for these protests/riots. Words have not got the desired effect. History has and is proving that. Actions are the only way forward for some of these desperate people. This has been a long time coming. If a police officer gets punched then so be it. If a protester gets punched then so be it. What does work, is that it gets in the main headlines on every news channel. It stays in the spot light.
I'd be happy with that to be honest, history is there to be learned from so mistakes aren't made again... that doesn't happen. Whilst I agree lots are subjective, some aren't a slave trader is hardly going to be held up as a great historical figure, Hitler is still loved by some people from all over the globe I wouldn't think having a statue of him going up would be subjective to most people, I think the majority would and should unite against.
Think it’s relevant if the only people offended by it are imaginary or right wing snowflakes pretending to be for attention.
Already answered it. Wonder why you keep going back to it, wonder why you choose Mandela specifically. It doesn't look good.
To be fair mate, I don’t give a **** about the statue...good riddance to it. But my argument (or point) is about where it ends ? I mean I am deeply offended by some **** trying to burn the flag on the Cenotaph. I see it as an insult to all those who fought and died fighting against fascism....others might disagree and say ‘it’s only a flag in a bit of stone’.....how far do we go ?? I really have to get some sleep
Why? it was a simple question. You are just trying to change course of the argument, insinuating I have some problem with the Mandela statue, I don't. You don't pull down statues like the 'soap dodging anarchists' did in Bristol. if a statue is to be removed it gets done properly and through the correct channels. As I said where do we stop... The Pyramids, The Coliseum, All built by slaves and costs 10's of thousands of lives? This is where these arguments fall down because these actions don't make sense. Don't try and destroy history because future generations will never learn. The statue in Bristol should stay so people can learn about the past. if it's gone then people will never know. What happens next do we start burning books?
There can't have been a fair minded person in the country that wasn't on the side of Floyd and black people in America unfairly oppressed by police. Then we get the thick ****s from UK Black Lives Matter who believe in mob rule, shooting themselves in both feet.
