The sentences are mad but isn't this clear evidence of a country in the EU ruling itself, I thought the EU ruled and dictated to all it's members.

A fair point on the face of it, but read what that the EU supporting Guardian has to say:

"The decision of Spain’s supreme court to sentence Catalan politicians and activists to lengthy jail terms following their bid to win independence in 2017 is truly appalling (Report, 15 October).

Normal western countries don’t lock up democratic opponents, and for an EU member state in the 21st century to have political prisoners beggars belief. This situation raises serious concerns about the very nature of democracy in Europe.

The EU and the rest of the international community must intervene, offering the parties a way out of the conflict. This is no longer an internal Spanish affair, it is a European and a global crisis. The EU does not need to take a side in the argument, rather it should act as an impartial mediator, looking at democratic and negotiated solutions. The union must intervene, or the crisis will escalate."

Good sense imho

Apparently part of the Brexit agreement delay is deciding what to do with the complete muppet who keeps shouting "Stop Brexit!" outside Westminster and drowning out media interviews. Any suggestions gratefully received.

I think that's the first post from Goldy on this thread that I agree with. All of Europe and the civilised world should be shocked and ashamed at what Spain is doing to the elected representatives in Catalonia. I will be protesting outside the Spanish embassy in Dublin this Friday at 7pm. It is time the EU took action.

Well said Goldy.

There's a lot of bollocks said (and posted) about the negative impact of the Benn act on UK negotiations. Cummings and Johnson didn't want a deal at all - and showed no sign of trying to get one - until their hand was forced by the 'Get Your ****ing Fingers Out Act' (as I have chosen to call it). Does anyone really think that we would be this close to a deal without it?

Just picked myself up off the floor, Fing. Only 8 years of trying...!

Well done for acting on your beliefs and protesting this Friday. I'm sure you won't be alone.

I am sure I won't be alone. Irish and Scottish nationalists have a lot of sympathy with the Catalan independence movement. Having lived in Spain for four years and seeing first hand how the Spanish treat them, I have always being sympathetic to their cause. I also love a little trip out to Barcelona to watch Barca and Messi play :emoticon-0102-bigsm.

Sadiq Khan’s verdict was clear on plans to make voters show ID before casting their ballots: ‘This is voter suppression’, he said. ‘It will hit poorer and minority communities, just as it does in the US’.
But Mr S couldn’t help but notice one of the requirements for people to attend the Mayor of London’s own ‘State of London Debate’ at the O2 earlier this year: ‘Please bring photo ID and arrive early to ensure entry’.

State of London? FFS, do you need to ask? Sounds like something you'd want to escape from with those c*nts taking part...

So my favourite Remoaning jorno has just said she thinks Boris will get a deal and it will pass through the house which is not the outcome she wants. Bless

That muppets days are now numbered. He will have to get a job now.

Normally, I'd say the media would make him a celebrity and have him on talk shows. But presenters are so heartily pissed off with his interruptions during their interviews, that'll be a dead end. Perhaps the Lib Dems will give him a role during the GE, promoting their parliamentary candidates with his head sticking out of the top of a car.
