Greta Thunberg: 'Leaders failed us on climate change'

Swedish campaigner Greta Thunberg has made a passionate speech to world leaders at the UN, accusing them of failing to act on climate change.

"You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words," she told a UN climate summit in New York.

About 60 world leaders are taking part in the one-day meeting organised by UN Secretary General António Guterres.

He earlier said countries could only speak at the summit if they came with action plans to cut carbon emissions.

US President Donald Trump, a climate change sceptic, had not been expected at the meeting - but he was briefly spotted in the audience.

Accept your apology without hesitation, as I admit I do tend to draw fire sometimes and get excitable however it’s not the main reason I voted leave, it was never about immigration it has always been about being ruled by unelected failed politicians eventually running our country from Brussels, I suppose being born just 17 years after the war and listening to my Grandad who spent five years away from his family fighting to avoid becoming a part of a united Europe under a tyrannical ruler and I guess I recall the arguments regarding the so called referendum about the eec back in the day and it stuck with me.
You sometimes go on about the Anglo Saxon in us being the reason we are like we are,you may be right, but the Anglo Saxon in us, our heritage and ancestry has been fighting to avoid becoming a european nation’s servant or in modern parlance their “bitch” for a thousand years and I don’t think you can change that, I don’t think you can convince people who voted leave that it’s in our best interests to become part of the United States of Europe, we’ve resisted as a nation alone for too long.

Took me a long time to admit that we were in decline but took me less time to realise we were all being controlled Turk and honestly had little say or influence in exactly how greedy we all became.

I seriously gave away everything some 12 years ago and just stumbled into what I am today ... That path taught me a lot about the ratio of time against joy and bliss.

It takes bravery and luck to smash the wheel but it can be done ... Time is ticking give your Mrs the best quality of life you can mate it’s all that matters ... everything else is a load of bollocks

For a start, it should be adult politicians, campaigners and scientists sorting out the issues with climate control, instead of relying on a 16 year old schoolgirl to raise awareness of the issue, and it's ****s like Trump, who are in denial, that are a major part of the problem.

She should be at home in Sweden with her friends instead of giving speeches at the UN, leading global environmental protests and mobilising the youth of the Earth to take a stand against the corporate manslaughter of our planet

i think we were all aware about global warming before she told us

but look at all the experiences she has been gaining recently

I've shat in a bucket many a time - it's a life affirming experience, but I think I'd rather **** in Bonos mouth to shut that self-righteous **** up....

But isn’t it just simple maths.......more money staying in the country means more money we have to spend on people, thus meaning we don’t need to cut spending on education.

I am afraid it’s not simple maths. Is 9bn net contribution a high price for free trade with the EU ? Most leavers would say exhorbitant but reality is that the financial sector alone could loose more than that (130bn last GDP contribution last year).

Much of the £14 billion overseas aid budget could be going to waste because ministers do not know if it represents value for money, MPs have said.
While the target to spend 0.7 per cent of gross domestic product (GDP) has been met, the public accounts committee found that ministers were unclear “what this considerable amount of aid money achieves in practice”.
One part of the budget, overseen by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, had its funding doubled to more than £700 million “despite a weak understanding of how funds had been spent, where and with what results”, the report found.
MPs also criticised the Treasury’s assessment of the UK Aid Strategy published in 2015,

We're doing everything we can to make sure patients receive the medicines they need after Brexit.

I wouldn’t find that terribly encouraging if I needed one of those to guarantee I woke up tomorrow.

No one is entirely blaming Brexit. Low consumer confidence and an abysmal exchange rate ain’t exactly going to help a travel agent. Project Fear though.

Low consumer confidence ? I thought passenger numbers had increased in the last couple of years ?
