Who checks the bias of media bias?
All these sites seem to be either left or right. Middle is no longer fashionable. As I said to Strolls, I'd trust the Independent (and Observer) no more than the Guardian. They have an angle, just as the Daily Mail does.
How can you prove that something didn’t happen because of a single factor in geopolitics?
It’s likely that by making the economies of the original members, all ravaged by war, highly interdependent, the EU created a continent where cooperation rather than confrontation is the norm. The economic model makes territorial expansion to gain economic strength redundant. EU institutions and structure are basically federalist (and us anarchists like federation, right? Well free association between collectives at least) with a strong anti nationalist ethos. It is only now, after 70 years, that some countries are seeing a rise in populist nationalism (all challenging the EU, none threatening to leave it), partly because the EU has ****ed a lot up, but also partly because people have forgotten what life under nationalists ends up like.
It’s possible that by it’s positive and open approach to the Eastern European countries after the collapse of the Soviet bloc, the EU staved off conflict in that region. It’s almost miraculous that, given the highly mixed populations in those countries, no country took the opportunity to ‘realign’ its borders on ethnic lines, like Russia is attempting in the Ukraine. Probably because they were focussed on raising living standards with the help of the EU (also economically good for EU members of course, no false altruistic motivations attributed here).
The promise of EU membership might just be keeping the Serbs relatively civilised at the moment.
There has been no military conflict between any of the countries in Western Europe for over seventy years. Try and find a similar period prior to 1945. Don’t bother, there isn’t one. The EU is one difference between the last seventy years and all that preceded them. I’m not sure that a causal link can be established (war exhaustion and relative improvements in living standards must also play a part) but it certainly can’t be ignored.
None of which detracts from the argument that the EU needs radical reform, or would cause anyone who is against it on principle to change their minds.
**** the protesters blow them up

Shocking post glorifying the murder of an innocent photographer ......shame on you and your adopted country sir
get out while you can goldieLooks like Goldie plays in the same cyberspace as Kiwi.
Apologies for the offence but seriously we can’t hang on every injustice the world serves up plus we don’t do anything about it anyway
We are all self obsessed and that’s the stark truth of it and I believe honesty is the best policy
The base is we are conditioned to look after our family and that’s about it. I moved to France for exactly the same reason ... a better life for my lads and guess what I am very proud of that
It’s gives my lads s break from the English lifestyle and let’s face it it’s no longer enjoyable We may all be well off enough compared to the poverty and lifestyles I have seen worldwide but sorry we have got it all wrong now in the U.K. and the clock is ticking so I say do something about it
I simply have no time for what goes on in the overall world nowadays but I treat everyone I meet on a daily basis with the upmost of respect
If bad news arrives seriously what can a load of old hits do about it from a football forum?
I totally respect what you do Staines however and that albeit from a long distance earns you hero worship from a burnt our cynical old **** like me .
I never knew you were so literal M.I’ll assume that there is no proof then
I never knew you were so literal M.
Show me the proof that Boris Johnson isn’t an angel sent by God to show us the error of our ways.
At last someone does a fact check for themselves.WIKI:
The Columbia Journalism Review describes Media Bias/Fact Check as an amateur attempt at categorizing media bias and Van Zandt as an "armchair media analyst."[2] Van Zandt describes himself as someone with "more than 20 years as an arm chair researcher on media bias and its role in political influence."[3] The Poynter Institute notes, "Media Bias/Fact Check is a widely cited source for news stories and even studies about misinformation, despite the fact that its method is in no way scientific."[4]
You either believe what the policeman says, or you don't. Or are you saying the site has made up the whole quote?
Some pretty strong generalisations Eastherts -
1. If you honestly believe that all "Leavers" hate the EU, you are in an equally blinded cul-de-sac
2. Some "Leavers" do not appreciate the way that Southern Europe has been used as a perfect market and tool for German banks
3. Some "Leavers" do not appreciate the way virtual regime change was exercised in Greece
4. Some "Leavers" do not believe that moving yourself further away from your customer gives you an improved insight in to what's really going on
5. Some "Leavers" do not believe that allowing indiscriminate and unplanned immigration is the best way to intigrate and take in people with very genuine needs
6. Some "Leavers" do not believe that the one size fits all monetary system can work for members with very different pockets and incomes
7. Some "Leavers" do not believe that the current system and majority of senior personnel are sufficiently willing to accept things need to be "tweaked"
8. Some "Leavers" do not believe that the EU has sufficiently helped its members have a fairer playing field with its competitors.
9. Some "Leavers" do not believe that there was any appetite to go against Big Corporations until the magnificent Magrethe came along - and now for some pitiful reason they do not want to even allow her to go for top post, as it goes against their own whims (GER and FRA)
10. Some "Leavers" believe in a strong, unted Europe, some "Leavers" do not believe this means being joined ala Siamese twins!
11. Some "Leavers" have had direct access to "Industry specialists" from the EU, some "Leavers" would likely let their gardeners be in charge of Industry strategy and execution, rather than these " EU Industry specialists"
Be very, very wary of clubs that so obviously will let you check out any time you like, but will never let you leave!!
Now, all said and done, that is the EU - note, no mention is made of the sheer political incompetence that has engulfed the UK, that is entirely of their own making, nothing to do with the EU!!!!!
As for tabloid lies - Does that make you a Trumpist? Fake news and all that!!
OK I'll bite, none of what you say accounts for the sheer hatred of the EU by some posters on here. Of course like all big organisations there are errors and mistakes made. That is inevitable, but this problem the leavers have with sovereignty is unique across Europe. Your points are opinions of the political process over the last forty years. As leavers keep telling us we are one of the largest economies in the world. How do you think that came about? Perhaps access to the largest free market area in the world might just have helped? Even a little bit? The EU must be developed and improved that's a given, but leaving is just causing unnecessary harm and suffering on our country for no good reason. All the good things that are going to happen that we were told in 2016 have now become us having to take some knocks and periods of tough times in order to make it through the next few years. It really is a complete and utter debacle that will hit the poorest and weak the hardest I just hope that we can stop this nonsense at the last minute! Some pretty strong generalisations Eastherts -
