The funny thing is Col I’m no lover of the EU, just incredibly concerned, as I know several people who’s livelihood is dependent on cross border trade. They are genuinely worried. The establishment of a hard boarder would undo a decade of hard work. And yes, the ongoing in-house political disagreements in Britain is very concerning because nobody knows where this is going. Europe (for the sake of all other members) has held the same stance since day one. I heard a very interesting discussion on the radio the other day, where an Irish economist was advocating that we should follow the UK out of Europe and establish an Anglo/American trade block. He argued that we have far more in common than just our language. He felt the EU was on its death bed and we should jump now. Interesting!
He can’t handle debate His answer is to insult and the tell people to F off This forum I repeat is a place to debate and I only reply with words in defence Bollocks to him he contributes nothing
It's better for them to know their fathers took us out of that undemocratic union than be chained to a dying organisation. Watford, it all comes down to the same thing... some wanted out some wanted in...some people wanted labour in, some wanted the Torys. It goes down to a democratic vote and you decide. once the result is in you accept it and work together and move forward. you don't cry/winge/moan and try to derail the result at every opportunity. The only reason there have been all these problems is due to a certain few trying to stop it happening. TBH I am disgusted how these people have turned on their own country like this. If the whole country had accepted the result and said okay let's move forward we would have had this sorted by now.
Personally, I really didn't read Col's comment as applying to you, Nuts. Not in the slightest. But it is a attitude to be found among some on the Continent. Brexit continues to stir up passion on both sides, but to those who say, Cameron caused the whole problem by calling for a referendum, I'd say this has been festering for some time as Brussels pressed for a federal Europe.
The same people who whinge about the Beeb for daring to put forward a different point of view as well as the right wing myths they have swallowed hook line and sinker. At least we know one thing is true. Those pesky empire building Russian Communists influenced the Referendum result by spreading misinformation. I read it in The Times and Telegraph so it must be true. Brexiteers are all pawns and foot soldiers of the great worldwide Russian conspiracy.
With respect, that’s utter bollocks. You can’t blame Remain supporters for those in charge of our exit being clearly incompetent and/or unknowledgeable of what Brexit entails. No one is anti-UK. People are anti this insane type of Brexit that for some reason we’ve chosen. Had we opted for a Norway type model it would have pissed off some at both extreme ends of the spectrum but would have had some logic. Now we are paying a cheeky £57bn for control of our banana laws. What I don’t get is why ardent Leavers aren’t pissed off at what a shambles it’s become.
Top post wish I could write it this well but I am too cross half the time and respect that many on here as just as frustrated. It’s not Col’s fault but to keep blindly defending this shambles is not acceptable from a brother of the Rangers. To blindly spurt crap about the EU being some sort of evil empire with expensive wine cellars is rich when we have a bunch of idiots in charge of the decision to leave I ain’t having it ... none of us know that much or have any influence as this issue intensifies If this current lot mucks everything up then honestly a lot of people may suffer as again I state big business currently here in the UK don’t care one bit
As I said the reason this has been so difficult is due to the continuing attempts to derail it. Your comment about 'banana laws' is exactly what I am talking about. Anyway, who cares now. It is done and we move forward. If the 'remoaners' want to cry about it, let them as it won't change the result.
Totally agree on that for me it’s accepted but can’t help feeling the entire mess will need to be deferred until WE sort ourselves out. We need to honour 100% our commitments we signed up for and sort out the Irish problem. Bollocks to trade etc and spending what we may save... that will be spent for the next decade paying back what it has cost us to leave
I’d argue the reason this has been difficult is that those in charge of doing it don’t have the knowledge required to do the job. I mention bananas because I don’t yet see what we’ll get for our money. Maybe something great will emerge from these negotiations and maybe we’ll look back in 5/10/100 years and say what a great move Brexit was.
does the uk get to keep its share of everything its paid for since it joined or does it get a massive multi billion pound payout
Problem is Ellers that the Brextards have to live with the Remoaners and vice versa long after Brexit. For the most part this thread has been relatively civilised, but the occasional outburst of bitterness shows how deep the divisions are. My first sentence shows it - every time you use Remoaner I’m tempted to respond with Brextard. It’s pathetic and not helping. If we don’t snap out of it, at all levels, it will become permanent. I don’t love my country in the way I think Col does, but that’s because we are wired differently (viva diversity!). But I am still British and in a way proud of it and have no interest in ‘doing us down’. My criticisms since the vote have been about the horrendous implementation by our government, which is not the same as our country, thank goodness. I may be wrong, they might be doing the best possible job in the circumstances, but that’s not the way I’m seeing it. And the people who think those of us who are unhappy with what they are seeing are just moaners who hate their country are just plain wrong. If we hated our country we wouldn’t be so pissed off with what is happening to it - not just Brexit, but the schisms that Brexit has brought to the surface. They were there anyway, and much more fundamental than the old left v right. Who knows where it will end. But at least my house is now warming up, and it has been a handy reminder of how lucky I am. Five days without central heating and hot water is pretty insignificant, though uncomfortable in this weather, but it took 3 grand to put right. Not available to many who have been cold much longer than me.
Well, I did say Davis was a bit of a muppet the day he got the job. If I remember I said he would probably resign as he normally does. However, I sort of feel sorry for him. I clearly remember a day when he was over there, they did the talk and he came back happy only for them to then say it was a crap meeting (which the BBC and Sky took great delight in highlighting). I remember how he felt betrayed by them. It seems they keep moving the posts. I cannot believe people won't accept this.
Agree my partner is working hard to get the homeless off the streets of Kingston ... 40-50 sleeping outside tonight in that borough and no funds to do anything much about it . Whatever happens we all have to change if of course we choose to support the future I give thanks every day that I can do something different
