Interesting comment by Ed (should I believe him?) Milliband on Ferrari's show. If we have fracking in the UK, with the risk of minor earthquakes damaging property, the companies fracking would still sell it on the international market at the same rate as gas is now. So, says Ed, where's the advantage?
On the other hand, the US seems think fracking in its country gives it an advantage....?
Let's ask our new Chancellor.....
Kwasi Kwarteng: Fracking not the answer to soaring energy bills (cityam.com)
Extra supply generated from untapped shale reserves in the UK “won’t materially affect the wholesale market price,” Kwarteng said.
“This includes fracking – UK producers won’t sell shale gas to UK consumers below the market price. They’re not charities.”

Classic view of the BBC in recent times
Former BBC journalist says something - perfectly legitimate in my view - that he absolutely could not have said whilst working for the BBC.
I didn't say he was still working for the BBC, but that this was BBC mindset in recent times.
And you think it's perfectly legitimate for this ex-BBC staff member to call people of colour "Coconuts"?
I think it's a legitimate comment. The fact that it was made by someone who used to work for the BBC is irrelevant.

And the use of the term Coconut is perfectly ok for you, is it?
It's highly relevant that he was BBC. It's that same mindset, although admittedly the BBC would not be so crass as to use that term which is clearly racist, and I don't make that claim lightly
Not quite sure it works like that goldie.
The u.s. is an exporter of gas (as well as using their own).
Europe and uk are net importers, especially from europe.
Exporting gas is not easily done and requires either pipelines or special ships (lng tankers).
Russia switching off their gas doesnt affect u.s. natural gas prices, they may potentially export a bit more but its not like suddenly thousands of specialised lng vessels are available (they were at pretty much max export capacity before).
If the shale gas is a tiny fraction of the gas provided then it wont make much of a dent on european and asian prices (asia has no natural gas either)

If one was overly sensitive, one might be forgiven for taking the supposition that a black person is white on the inside as suggesting that being the latter is a negative thing. I'm getting more and more irritated by both positive and negative comments about gender, sexuality and race etc. - why can't we just consider the person and what they say and (most importantly) actually do?
The term is perfectly ok for me, but perhaps shouldn't be used by white people. The point, which certainly is legitimate in my view, is that these brown and black faces on the Tory front bench (lauded as being diverse, when actually having been selected for all having exactly the same views) do not represent the outlooks and lived experiences of the vast majority of brown and black people in the country as a whole. It takes more than having similar amounts of melanin.
