Is anyone else wishing like me that our government representatives would tone down the belligerent stance towards Russia? I was serious Goldie, and I wish I could be as blasé about all this as you seem to be. I'm normally the most rational of people, but, as unlikely as a nuclear attack might be, this **** actually scares me and I find myself thinking about it more than is healthy. I'm not scared for myself - I've had my life - but for my children and grandchildren. I hate the thought of not being able to do anything to help them.
JUST IN - Biden is requesting $33 billion “emergency funding” to provide weapons and economic assistance to Ukraine.
I agree that it's getting very scary. My biggest fear is that Putin is actually raving mad. I find myself torn on how we react to Russia. How far do we let them go? Should we be less aggressive? I'm not sure. Is nuclear war a real possibility? I cling to the hope that, for all their rhetoric, Russia realise that they simply can't win a nuclear exchange, even with Britain. Any attack would be returned in kind. Scary stuff.
What I don't get is why our government is rattling its sabres so much. I'm all for supporting Ukraine with arms and sanctions, but why are we poking the bear as we are? Wallace and Truss are talking about Russia being pushed out of the whole of Ukraine. Ukraine war: Ben Wallace backs Liz Truss and says Russia should be pushed out of 'the whole of Ukraine' - including Crimea | Politics News | Sky Newsbeing pa Are we NATO's mouthpiece all of a sudden? As I said earlier, all this does is make us target number one for a Russian nuclear attack. Surely we should be looking for a more realistic end game?

No, I take your point. I'm not sure why we're pushing quite so hard. To be honest though, it doesn't make much difference whether we're targeted first or last. Once a NATO country is attacked that's that!!
I assume that they think that a nuclear strike isn’t a possibility, so they can mouth off all they like and feel good about themselves. They must assume that Putin isn’t nuts, where for me, every glimpse of him sitting at his big table, or opposite some minister or other, pronouncing as if no one in the world is laughing at him, screams ‘yeah, this bloke has gone over the edge’. If there is a NATO v Russia nuclear exchange only China wins, Xi must be loving this. Stock up on wine and drink heavily, worrying about this **** changes nothing. Its amazing how quickly we’ve got used to this war. But we’ll never get used to stagflation, which is happening now.
Hypothetical: if a single nuke is lobbed into the U.K., would you automatically respond, or expect the government to respond, in kind? No side to this question, genuine hypothetical.
As I understand it, if a nuke is launched at the UK, our subs will launch Tridents. Having always supported the nuclear deterrent, I suppose I'd have to say we should retaliate. Awful scenario.
I doubt there would be a nuclear attack but it wouldn't surprise me if there's a conventional attack on a military NATO target using one of his hypersonic missiles. I'm going to Cyprus for a few weeks in May and there is a NATO tracking station at the top of Mount Olympus which is vital to the close monitoring of the region, that's just the sort of strike he could make to put the sh*ts up all those supporting Ukraine. Doesn't make my holiday any more appealing either...
