I phoned my GP centre last Thursday for an appointment (nothing urgent) and got one for Tuesday morning. A big improvement from last year, when they would routinely say that they couldn't do anything for two weeks. Whenever I've actually got to see a GP, they've been excellent. It's just been difficult to get appointments.

I do have a moan about the pharmacy, though. The system now is that the GP sends your prescription direct to the pharmacy, so I went there about an hour after I'd seen the doctor, only to be told that it would take 48 hours to get the prescription made up. When the GP used to hand you a bit of paper, you'd take it to the pharmacy and they'd make it up while you waited.

World's only An-225 destroyed by Russian airstrikes

The government of Ukraine has confirmed that the world's only An-225, operated by state-owned Antonov Airlines (ADB, Gostomel), has been destroyed during a Russian airstrike on Gostomel airport.

UR-82060 (msn 19530503763) operated its last revenue flight on February 5, 2022, flying from Billund to Gostomel, Flightradar24 ADS-B data shows. As it was under maintenance, it was thus not able to leave Ukraine before the Russian invasion. Despite the government's confirmation, Antonov Design Bureau said on February 27 that it was still unable to inspect the aircraft and report on its condition. Earlier recordings from Gostomel airport showed a fire raging in the hangar in which the An-225 was usually stored.

The has government pledged to rebuild the aircraft once the conflict is over.

"It will cost over USD3 billion to restore the plane, the restoration shall be time-consuming. Ukraine will make every effort to ensure that the aggressor state pays for these works," state-owned defence holding UkrOboronProm, which manages Antonov, said in a statement.

UkrOboronProm's general director, Yuriy Husyev, added that the Ukrainian government was planning to finish the construction of a second An-225 hull. The assembly of the second, slightly modified aircraft of the type began in the 1980s, began before the collapse of the Soviet Union, but was subsequently shelved indefinitely with the partially built airframe also stored at Gostomel airport. Antonov Airlines has been seeking financiers to finish the assembly of the second An-225 for years.

Gostomel airport, a non-commercial facility located some 40 kilometres north of Kyiv, has been a target of Russian attacks given it would be a convenient staging point for an assault on the Ukrainian capital.

Apparantly, there is evidence of Johnsons covering up of Russian inteference in the UK and UK politics, guess who else is supposedly involved....yep the newly knighted Sir Gav. Now whether this is true or not will probably never be revealed but it adds some relevence to why the **** a useless **** like Williamson can get honoured in such a way.

The whole honour system is a complete joke with the government of the time rewarding their friends and lackies.

Is this banning of Russian culture and products just a little bit silly now ?
I can totally understand the reasoning behind making life difficult for the common Russian people, thus leading to them ‘rising up’ and overthrowing Putin and his mob, but I fail to see how banning Tolstoy from book clubs is really doing much good.

Must say, I felt sorry for Mazepin (former Haas F1 driver) as he was released from his contract purely because he's Russian (probably doesn't help that he hasn't performed well), but as is so often the case, innocent parties are punished for decisions made by their leaders. I understand that the aim is to encourage an uprising against the Government, but when the Government has such control, and is willing to kill those who oppose it, surely we need to go straight for the Government instead of putting the Russian people in the firing line first.

    Who is banning Tolstoy?

Interesting Alastair Stewart interview with senior military people. It appears that the vast majority of Russians over 30 years of age approve of the invasion of Ukraine and are in favour of use of Russian military might to subjugate its smaller neighbours and increase territory, power and influence. If that is true, sanction against Russia can scarcely be too harsh imo.

Now a steady flow of Russians crossing the border into Finland as rumours that martial law is about to be imposed in Russia as even the comparatively few people protesting against the war are intolerable to Putin.

His aim to stop the presence of NATO near his borders backfiring precisely because of his actions - both Finland and Sweden discussing joining.

To be honest….I think it was a piss take and I’ve been had.

I still think this banning of anything Russian, and the virtue signalling that follows it can be rather ridiculous
I mean there were people on FB demanding that the Russian Ballet company were banned from performing who had never been to a ballet in their lives…..people are falling over themselves to become virtuous.
But on the other side, after someone explained the reasoning behind it, I can understand the point of making life difficult for common Russians so as to sow the seeds of insurrection.

Im finding Putins comments that he sees “Western sanctions akin to declaration of war”…a rather worrying development.
He’s being backed into a corner and in this obviously unpredictable state, he could do anything, including the use of tactical nuclear weapons.
    Just my opinion of course

The truth is “marzipan” got his seat cause daddy who is a close friend of pootin, bankrolled Haas with more dodgy Russian money. As a driver he was seconds behind the other Haas driver in the same car. Once daddies money dried up I bet Haas thought brilliant we can get rid of this donkey

It gives me great pleasure that he finished 21st in a 20 driver competition in the only season he competed.

You scared me for a moment! His full quote is that he sees sanctions as akin to a declaration of war "...but thank God it's not come to that".

    Big difference!!

Even he must care enough about his self preservation and the preservation of Russia not to go *that* far.

I saw a video today of the aftermath after a battle in Ukraine…..brought it home that while we at home just see the numbers killed and injured….in real life every single young lad killed is a tragedy.
