Nadine Dorries has said she would “probably” withdraw her support for Boris Johnson “if he went out and kicked a dog.” Brilliant
Canada is a democracy. If Canadians voted in a government that wanted Russian airbases, the US would not declare war on Canada, though sanctions would be massive. Ukraine is a fledgling democracy. The government there wants to move away from Russia led by an unelected (in fact), authoritarian leader. The answer may be to delay indefinitely any decision allowing Ukraine into Nato.
Putin won't invade if the west stands strong. We don't need Macron and his capitulation... for political reasons or idiot sympathisers like Jezza and Abbott to make us look weak.
4th attempt? I think if he wanted to take over ukraine when he took over crimea, we probably would have let him at the time. I think that maybe the sensible answer. If that is what would prevent Russia invading then i think that is a win win for everyone. At the moment, no one is going to get involved if Russia do go through with an invade (no Nato troops are moving out there??) and the whole point of joining Nato is so that Ukraine are part of a military alliance for defence? (is that what nato is for?). Surely, it makes sense not to join Nato to stop Russia invading if that is their reason for invading. It is better for Ukraine and better for the common person and the innocents for Ukraine. in simple terms: 1. Ukraine joins nato -> Russia Invades -> West defends -> head to world war? (least likely) 2. Ukraine joins nato -> Russia doesn't invade and this is all posturing (possibly, but probably not) 3. Ukraine joins nato -> Russia Invades -> West doesn't do anything bar sanctions - very likely 4. Ukraine doesn't join nato -> Putins sticks to his word peace for the time being - 2nd most likely 5. Ukraine doesn't join nato -> putin invades anyway -> west doesn't do anything bar sanctions it's basically a repeat of 3. 4. seems the logical choice to me
When you say stand strong, is the intention to send our air force and troops on the ground in? What does stand strong even mean? just sanctions?
4th attempt. I was listening to the Russian analyst on the news. I don't need to go into details about Putin and his regime... we all know what he is like. But as I said, we don't need idiot sympothisers Like Jezza supporting Putin.
Ukraine is not going to join NATO. ....this invasion will either happen or not happen...without Ukraine being in NATO
64% of Ukrainians now support joining NATO since Crimea was invaded. Stoltenberg has made it clear that large powerful countries like Russia will not have a veto should the Ukranian government want to join NATO. That is Russia's red line.
Things hotting up in Ukraine. UK have advised all British nationals to leave and advised against all travel from the UK to the area. My date of 22nd February still looking good, although the US say it could be sooner.
From where I’m sitting, in a position of near total ignorance, the more belligerent noises seem to be coming from the U.K. and US, two governments with leaders in deep domestic ****. Not helped by sending people like Truss into the lions den, so far out of her depth that it would be comical if it wasn’t so dangerous. All these ‘stand firm’ empty threats are being laughed at. I wouldn’t put anything past Putin, but the NATO side seems incredibly fragmented. Weird scenes inside the goldmine.
