Actually Shefford I think it does merit a separate thread, it's a completely different subject. I don't think it will be that controversial, I don't know anyone who admits to thinking he did the right thing. Although I will maintain that Saddam Hussein was a facist genocidal dictator who needed removing. This did not require us being lied to about WMD or Islamic terrorism, and should have been subject to parliamentary process.

Thank god. You and Köln should start a political TV show called "Politics with Mr. Doom and Mr. Gloom"

Osborne preparing to cut Corporation Tax from 20% to 15% in an attempt and keep companies in the UK and attract some inward investment. So there is the first £10bn of his predicted £30bn public finances 'black hole'. Perhaps a little bit more austerity will help make that up. Or an income tax rise. Or perhaps more VAT. Or all three. A chance that this will attract so many companies that the tax take will actually go up.

Certain irony that 'big businesses'/multinationals which took such a kicking from the Leave campaign are the first to theoretically benefit from a potential Brexit. Of course small companies will benefit as well, though this obviously isn't aimed at them.

I am reading in the WSJ that The United Kingdom is likely to try to lure international investment by becoming a tax haven after it leaves the European Union, according to an internal memo prepared by the body responsible for the drafting international tax rules.

Enjoying this good natured and civilised Tory leadership election already.
    - Gove accused of having an 'emotional need to gossip' especially when having one of his frequent drinks, by a fellow Tory MP
    - Andrea Loathsome wriggling after he 'disaster to leave EU' statement of 3 years ago raised. Apparently she can change her mind, we can't. Clearly nervy about publishing her tax returns
    - Theresa May puts not only future 2 way migration, but the status of the 3 million EU citizens in the UK and 1.2 million UK citizens in the EU 'up for grabs'. Actually threatening to kick these people out may be a strong negotiating card, but will not make for a relaxed and open discussions.
    - 'Dr' Fox pledges to increase Defence spending. Not sure he's on top of the issues of the day
    - Lobster boy said something, but I've forgotten it

Best of all Boris Johnson calling for an end to 'uncertainty and hysteria'. He thinks we are in a stage of 'contagious mourning' like after the death of Diana. Nothing hysterical about that view of course. Poor bloke had to churn some crap out for his Telegraph column/pay check I suppose.

Labour going round in ever decreasing circles. Log jam may break once Corbyn has his go at Blair over Chilcott later this week. Apparently he is hanging on on order to do this.

I'm with you on all of that, but am getting increasingly irritated that these leadership issues have become the main focus. Time to split up both parties, methinks, and replace with something more fit for purpose.

As I've been saying, Conservative party regime change and a show of unity in 2015 is all this sorry episode was about. I'm starting to wonder how many weakly Remain figureheads actually wanted to Remain, TBH.

If we do see Parliament voting on Article 50, maybe we'll get to see how many erstwhile Remainers decide to support it. Although I fully expect them to explain away their choice as "respecting the will of the people" - absolving them from taking the responsibility they pretended to want when elected.

I do expect us to invoke Article 50 at some point in 2016.

Regarding "fit for purpose" - not in a million years could we be so lucky. Too much vested interest with disproportionate influence in the current setup.

All these promises and policies - nowhere in the Conservative manifesto were these listed or proposed. How can they promote these out of thin air and say the 2015 result gives them the mandate?

This is where you'd want an elected head of state - like a president - who has the authority to say to the new prime minster "You have no mandate to govern or negotiate the Brexit" prepare your plans and let the electorate decide. I'd love the Queen to do that anyway.

If you want answers you come to me.....
    Cameron Eurosceptic
    Boris Remain
    Gove Eurosceptic
Osbourne Remain (but now changes his mind because he wants a job)
May Eurosceptic (but sat on fence awaiting her chance for leader)
    Fox Eurosceptic
    AL Eurosceptic
    Finally
Corbyn Eurosceptic (respect to him for his honest views)
    Farage ....<doh>

Don't believe the tosh they say on TV because most of them are only worried about their jobs and will say anything. If the polls had shown 'Leave' were favourites then you would have seen a lot more show their true colours.

I'd expect current Labour to fight that election around Trident. And possibly Israel-Palestine conflict.

Exciting news, Farage to stand down as UKIP leader! How many hours before he changes his mind?

To do what, get a job with Murdoch? He could go back to the commodity trading business he owned, if it wasn't in liquidation. Good job it was too small to have any employees. Except his wife, who was also busy being paid by the EU. Focus man!

    stand by Sky subscribers:

Lunch with Nige - Nigel Farage has lunch with three carefully selected member of the public from Clacton, Great Yarmouth and Dudley, in a pub of his choice. They watch while he eats a pie and drinks seven pints of bitter, nipping out for a smoke every fifteen minutes, while lecturing them on what 'ordinary, decent' people think.

Dinner with Nige - same as lunch except Nigel eats a curry and drinks 3 bottles of claret.

Nige Says - political chat show in which Nigel shouts over his guests, and the audience

Nige's Guide to Europe - travelogue in which Nige introduces us to his favourite tobacconists in Brussels and Strasbourg. 'Nothing else worth seeing' is his catchphrase.

Secret Nige - Nige goes incognito with a bunch of Rumanian agricultural migrants and accidentally deports himself

Nige's NHS - Nige tries to get treatment for his piles without encountering any EU migrant NHS workers. Ends up going private.

Nige's Neighbours - Nige ranks other nationalities in order of preference if you really have to have a foreigner living next door.

I see Hammond and Fallon are now emerging with Theresa May as determined Brexiteers, despite fighting with Cameron to remain.

It really is a colossal irony that Johnson and Gove who fought the successful Brexit campaign, have now beaten each other senseless with clubs, leaving the Tory EU fence-sitters to wave their swords about and claim victory on the field of battle

Now Mischon de Reya are launching a high court action on the triggering of Article 50. To ensure it receives Parliamentary scrutiny. Notwithstanding they make bucket loads through EU laws.

Don't be surprised to see Cherie Blair bringing a Human Rights action on behalf of those who voted 'Remain'...
