What is keeping some people inside is self interest. They don't want to catch the virus. In some ways, there is a feel good factor because with the furlough scheme in place, people are treating this like a long holiday and have no wish to go back to work. The public sector is particularly well placed because jobs are generally secured. It's much harder in the private sector, and it's going to get a lot worse there.

...I think he meant "those who are seeking to politicise this should take a long hard look in the Mirror."

This is a bit of a niche reference but made me chuckle

I wasn’t talking about Cummings though Goldie. More about the leader of the country being a bit dodgy (which even some of the most ardent of Tory press seem to be able to admit is true)

Were people staying inside out of self interest or out of concern for others? To 'Protect the NHS'.

I've been called selfish for not sticking rigidly to the previous irrational, arbitrary rules (now of course replaced by vague, incomprehensible ones) even though I wasn't in any way putting myself or anyone else in danger.

Whatever, it's done now, isn't it? Everyone will, and should, do as they please. Like Cummings.

If one of Corbyn's (if he had any) aides had done this, he'd be all over it like a rash.

I think he is a bit dodgy. There's something there that I was never drawn to. But no one can actually pin anything on him, and so he survives and his popularity is high. The furlough scheme has got even Labour voters in favour. In the short term, he will be judged on what happens in the Brexit talks. He's taking a hard line and most of the public approve (judging by his ratings). He'll then have to deal with recession and probably the UK trading in a worldwide depression, and the voting public have already built this into their expectations. If Boris is brought down, it could well be by something stupid he did in his past. I'm sure left wing journo's are digging madly at this very moment.

People started out by thinking of the NHS (you appear to be an exception by your own admission) but now that numbers of victims are coming down and the NHS is managing pretty well, there is definite loosening particularly among the younger sections of society. As to Cummings, he was not visiting a second home or having his married mistress to stay. He was (apparently) doing what was necessary to protect his son. As the facts come out, public opinion will judge.

It is peculiar though that his wife said he was bed ridden etc. See Beth's post over on coronavirus. Someone is lying....yet again. Every single bloody day we hear more lies and more lies. People seriously need to wake up ffs.

FFS! I said that I didn't abide strictly by the irrational and arbitrary rules, I didn't say that I wasn't concerned about the NHS. Personally, I don't particularly care what Cummings did, but the hypocrisy and double-standards that this government displays shouldn't be allowed to prevail.

in what way was he caring for his son? did his son live with his grandparents? Maybe it would have been safer for the public if cummings parents came down to pick up his son rather than have him and his super spreader wife spreading it across the whole of the UK.

The damage Scummings will cause, from people who will say, if it's alright for him and so on, is going to result in yet more needless deaths.

Incredible that senior ministers are backing him.

Exactly the point I was making earlier. It would actually be better, if you're feeling well, take the kids to see their grandparents. If you get stopped, just say you need them to be looked after. It's good enough for someone who has the virus, surely it's good enough if you dont have symptoms. I've actually just been down with my son to see his. It was bloody excellent to see them face to face. Its opened a right can of worms if nothing else. Cheers Cummings!

You can’t blame boris for that mate, he allowed 10 after consultation in New York it was mass graves and in Italy and France and Spain it was just the priest and the grave diggers, so some got to say goodbye not all I’ll grant you that.

My own step father wasnt allowed to his own sons funeral. Do you see why people are angry? that despite Cummings, according to his own wife, apparantly being bed ridden for 10 days, he managed to drive to Durham. Even more bizarre that he could drive from a bed? Somebody is lying as 10 downing street said he went to Durham incase he got unwell.

Why’s it always down to lying, c’mon mate is that all the left have got “ITS ALL LIES “
Have you ever considered it’s just bad communication, or a genuine error.
And yes I feel for your stepfather not being able to say goodbye to his son and I understand why people are angry, but it’s not The governments fault it’s just how it currently is I’m afraid.
