I think the jury's out on this until all the facts are known. People are comparing what Cummings did to the Scottish Medical Officer, Calderwood, visiting her second home for recreational purposes twice. She broke the guidelines, not the law, and despite Sturgeon's best efforts to keep her, public opinion was that she should go and she went.
Then there's Professor Neil Ferguson who was visited by his married mistress. No one made an argument that he should not resign.
However, what Cummings appears to have been motivated by, is having his 4 year old son looked after safely by his parents, while his wife and he had the virus. If those are indeed the facts, then I think the public will be much more forgiving.
Of course there will be some on here that will be foaming at the mouth and tearing their Daily Mirrors to threads with their teeth at this appraisal

The flaw in this argument is doing a 520 mile round trip with no regard for the people they came into contact with along the way nor the risk of the kid they couldn’t look after despite being well enough to drive 260 miles passing the virus on.
Yes it's all a load of tosh. Thousands up a and down the country will have been in a similar position. They decided to abide by the guidelines. It's now a free for all. The very people who made up these guidelines are the ones to break them. I'm off to see my mum and step dad soon. Then to see my nieces as I've missed them loads. Cant wait.

I don't know what precautions they took. These are facts that haven't come out. The Mirror/Guardian say they were spoken to be the police. This has been denied by a spokeman for Cummings. There are not enough facts out yet to reach a conclusion. What I do think is the facts must be known and this matter cannot be glossed over. Is Cummings a gross hypocrite for flouting the guidelines he helped create, or a concerned parent who has done his best for his young son like any dad would do? That's what the public will have to take a view on

The public, and I'm not actually trying to argue with you here Goldy, will do whatever they want. This has been a shambles from start to finish! Might aswell just call it all off and open up as usual.
I think that is what is happening, Bob. I went to Tesco's in midweek in the afternoon, and was amazed to get in without queuing. The lady at the checkout told me there were huge queues that morning - everyone was buying picnic stuff to take down to the beach.
I'm sick of it all now. If cummings can drive 200 odd miles, full of the virus to stay with parents then anyone not showing any symptoms can do whatever they ****ing well please. If you do have symptoms then obviously you can still visit your parents.
Honestly, I dont blame them. Every instruction from that pre recorded Sunday evening broadcast was pathetic. People have had enough of being lied to. They will do what they want .
Just as Blair is remembered for taking us into an illegal invasion, johnson will be remembered for lies, thousands of unnecessary deaths and a completely ruined economy. Suppose he got brexit done based on some acceptable lies though.
