Don't twist my words Ellers - I did not say that ''Tourists won't be allowed to come here''; which you know well enough. What I did say is that there will be some changes from the present situation which make it harder for spontaneous weekend tourists to come to London from neighbouring countries - whether that is in the form of stamping passports, Visas, or making people apply for Visa free status (the last of those is the one which I have seen suggested), all these are likely to prove an obstacle for people just wanting to pop over for the weekend. Particularly for younger people on language learning holidays - already many of these Language schools are relocating to Ireland or Malta. The other problem is a collateral one - if people in the EU get the idea that you want their trade, but they, themselves are not welcome - then they may just give you the proverbial two fingers and take their bodies elsewhere. According to surveys which have been done in several European countries up to 40% are ready to boycott British products, and nearly the same number have said they are less likely to visit the UK as a result. There is absolutely no doubt that tourism in London (and many south coast towns dependent on language students) will take a massive hit as a result of Brexit.

I have worked for many years in the language teaching industry in Germany and know for a fact that there are now more bookings for language learning holidays in Ireland and Malta, and fewer in the traditional venues such as Brighton or Bournemouth. As for the 40% I am simply quoting surveys which have been done in various EU countries - you may not like the results very much but that does not change their validity. It's probably not so much a boycott as people saying that if the same product, or service, is available from another EU. country then they will go there - which is perfectly justifiable.I really don't know where to start with this one?

Seriously CH you really need to get out more fella. I was in France last weekend and was shocked by the price hike of petrol and food (not to mention clothes). No wonder they riot every week. For the first time in a long while I noticed Petrol was cheaper here in the UK. The only boycotting that will be going on will be in the EU when they realise it's cheaper here. saying that, you could actually be right because the way it's going the EU will be skint so people won't be able to afford to visit?

As for tourism - I should add that half of the tourism businesses in London rely on EU nationals for more than half of their workforce (there could be linguistic reasons for this). The tourist industry contibuted 145.9 Billion pounds to the UK economy in 2018, making it one of Britain's most successfull industries - the bringing in of ''Sudden restrictions could destabilise and imperil the industry''. The reason for the quotation marks is that these are not my words but rather the CEO of UKinbound, Joss Croft. The EU needs to plug its €75 Billion blackhole. I hear the summit was a disaster for the EU with many countries upset because they have to pay more now our 'small country' has left. I am sure Germany will pay the €12 Billion a year after Brexit... sorry I forgot Germany and France have already fallen out over that.
As for the language courses, I have to bow to your knowledge... although I seem to remember you posting that city firms would relocate to Frankfurt.... and what happened there?

Possible Italy recession due to coronavirus
Former prime minister of Italy Silvio Berlusconi expressed his fear that the coronavirus may cause a recession in Italy.
He tweeted: “Alongside the health emergency, there is a serious problem for our economic system. The loss of a few decimals of GDP, forecast by all economists, risks canceling the already very low growth and bringing us back into recession.”
I wouldn't refer to many people losing jobs as a win. Italy has been through some tough times. huge youth unemployment and many people struggling.
