Trouble is that it's difficult to put it back in the box. Former Yugoslavia which the West was happy to dismember in the interests of self-determination set a precedent which the UK, Spain and all other European countries will have to live with particularly when so much of this election and the last three years has been a heated debate about honouring the results of a democratic vote.
FFFF is he still alive? I thought I wrote a post on the RIP thread for him? Jezza probably dug him up and plugged him in.![]()
You just contradicted yourself Stroller. If he has replaced all the 'one nation' lot with 'no dealers' it would make the ERG stronger and harder for him to face them down.Johnson has talked a lot about leading a 'one-nation' Tory party government. I hope he's as good as his word, but there are a couple of problems with this. Firstly his word has been proven time after time to be utterly worthless, and secondly he sacked a lot of 'one-nation' Tories and is likely to have replaced them with hard right no-dealers. His withdrawal bill will pass of course, but then the hard work starts on getting a good trade agreement with the EU. It's highly unlikely that this can be done by the end of 2020 and, if this is the case, he must extend the transition period for as long as it takes to get a deal. There are many in the Tory party that still actively want a no-deal Brexit, but he must face them down to ensure a proper trade agreement can be reached. Failure to do this, and exiting on WTO terms, would prove his one-nation claim to be just another lie.

He was on QT a few months ago; only had to fart to get a round of applause from the ‘balanced’ audience.

I mean it's statistical fact but whatever. Not contesting the result there's no escaping that but debate should never be shut down. I appreciate you've still got a raging hard on but it's a bit embarrassing really.zzzzwhat utter rubbish Frome. Funnily someone said the same to Nick Farrari on LBC and he put them in their place. The majority want Brexit sorted and it will be sorted. Get over it and accept a democratic vote.
FPTP is not fit for purpose that much is startlingly clear. Not sure how anyone can say it's justifiable now. So many voices not represented because of our hoary old electoral system. The likes of the SNP crowing like mad now but it's madness how 45% Of the vote can get you 80% Of the seats. Interesting to note that parties supporting remain or a referendum with a remain option got 51% of the popular vote which suggests it's not as black and white (or blue) as all that. I do wonder what impact Farage standing down his 317 candidates had, significant I would say and it's a shame that, that sort of mass manipulation of the system is allowed but that's what fptp enables.

However I agree in that Boris needs to deliver. He mentioned the NHS and needs to sort that problem out. I think many will be eating humble pie when he does.
As for the EU... we have never been in a stronger position. The EU leaders have been quick to say they want a deal and get Brexit sorted ASAP. The reporter in Brussels said "The EU is extremely worried of a no deal and will want a deal finalised as quickly as possible".
The one nation Tories Boris sacked, were "one European nation" Tories. No place for them
If you want to scroll back to some of the mocking of my posts (you included) I think I called it pretty well again... Add that to Brexit and Trump. You are all to quick to try and mock me but once again you try and sound smart but cant see a foot in front of you.I mean it's statistical fact but whatever. No contradiction by me, perhaps by Johnson though. That's the problem he has to face - 'one-nation' and no-deal are mutually exclusive.
The Tories succeeded in making this a Brexit election and that's the main reason they won, but Johnson is going to have to make progress in all kinds of areas aside from Brexit that have been ignored for the last three and a half years. Let's see him do some of the healing he has promised, starting with the NHS.
Yep. Let's wait and see.

She didn't have an 80 majority.I seem to remember May making a good speech outside number 10 and then failing to deliver on any of the things she promised. Of course we must wait and see, but the deadline for a trade deal is only just over a year away and there will be nowhere for Johnson to hide when that day comes. The next budget will be even sooner and his 'one-nation' credentials will be severely tested then because he'll have to deliver massive investment in the NHS very quickly. Don't hold your breath.
She didn't have an 80 majority.
Watford what do you expect in Brackers?Or a load of absolute saps just happy to be there queuing up to suck her off.
Corporal Rimmer got his 60% of the vote btw.
Watford what do you expect in Brackers?I am actually surprised at the amount of diversity/graduates/working class/professionals that voted for the Tories. It saddens me when some refer to voters as sheep or racists. He has actually got an amazing mix of voters.
