() There you go GAT. I've been thinking (highly dangerous I know) that these "Irish" HAVE to be someone somewhere connected to the previous board, now does anyone one else have that feeling or am I being daft?? There has to be a reason why they don't want the fans to know! Maybe Stapes has Irish blood, perfect excuse to call himself "Irish". Maybe it's just my conspirosy theory and I have too much time on my hands but...
To be fair I don't really blame Stapes, it all happened when he was pushed aside. I do believe he loves the club. I blame Todd & co + the Japs for this sorry saga, Brenda and the ginger one have made matters worse though.
Mrs Reid, you have too many stored messages so in answer to your mail it is tomorrow. I've heard of a Shamus O'Staplegun who was a cabinet maker for MFI.
I tried to send you a reply also Mrs Reid and i gave up as it does not send , no stiff ones for me thanks
It is no good having sentimental thoughts about anyone previously connected to the club. This man had much invested in Argyle and is after all an Accountant by profession. Now call me a little naive but would you not think he would make it his business to know where the money was going. If you were in business in and around this neck of the woods would you trust an Accountant who could not account? I don't buy into this simplistic excuse of "I didn't know and they didn't tell me". Fact is he should have made it his business to know. Not saying he isn't greener than most Chairmen we have had but that is no excuse for incompetence.
I'm not sentimental about it really, I just think that when he was running the show he ran it well - you were quick to point this out at the time sensible, you were proud of Stapes's prudence! I just think that apart form the others and also the new PB he is actually a fan like us. Maybe he messed up maybe he didn't but I believe he loves Argyle nevertheless and that must count for something.
He was competent and became sadly incompetent. The way Argyle was run was well but it didn't stay that way and sadly Stapleton was part of it. Never questioned his loyalty and still don't but he was a failure in the end nonetheless.
I agree sensible, he bit off more than he could chew in the end. He got all the others in along side and look what happened the rest is History, Stupid world cup bid, i was anti that from the day it was announced and got grief for stating that was all they were interested in, but we move on, hope fully upwards we have had enough of as Ds says Freefall.
You can call me Gart if you wish Joe ..... phew panic over my internet has come back on lol what have I missed ?
Lets all have a large one and toast the staff up at HP who have been brilliant again ! Oh and I have to change my signature pic, Exeter City fans have been signing the petition in their droves
I'm trying to be fair, Stapleton brought the others in as he had taken the club as far as he could with limited finance and with the best of intentions - let's not forget that we the fans were giving him **** at the time. Yes he made mistakes, big ones, one of the the biggest was hanging onto Sturrock. Yes he should have known better but... Who would you trust the most to have our club in their hands, Stapleton or Heaney?
