My missis comes from Dartmouth Joe and I did the steam train as far back as when they were all steam and it was still run by British Rail. I've been on it since it became for enthusiasts but I do think it's a bit overpriced like a lot of attractions around the South West. It is a nice run around for the tourists but I know what the view looks like when you round the bend and the river and College etc. come into view so it doesn't hold the same wow factor for me anymore. Paignton was quite busy today and there were quite a lot of people with kids getting on the train at North Road this morning and heading there.
 
yep a popular place to go this time of year. agreed it was a costly trip £30 for two of us , but
never done it before won't have to Shaun and yes I knew the views as been around that coast a bit but looks a lot different from the train I always go to broad sands near church stow , quieter and more locals there not all the holiday makers but it's a nice part of Devon
 
The problem with Dartmouth isn't the holiday makers as they have always been around. I've known Dartmouth since 1967 and in the old days as they say it was full of locals and you always knew somebody if you went for a pint even if you were only serving at the College. Nowadays whenever I go up there and see the wife's family I hardly see anyone I know because it is full of, mainly brummies, who have moved down and taken over the area. This is the same sort of thing throughout the South West and it is killing the area. The locals are being forced out because they cannot compete financially with those moving in. The very things that attracted a lot of people to the area are then dying out and little of the change is for the better in my opinion. The locals that remain don't bother to go into town anymore. The locals started the rot by taking the high prices they were being offerred for porperties and those are the ones complaining now because their son's and daughters are forced to live elsewhere.
 
I've been comtempating the game tomorrow and am hoping this will give us a better idea on how Argyle will go this season. Despite the Ref I've gotten over Saturday now and think that we were well up against it with Pompey and they are going to do more than very well so as a yard stick they are a tad too ambitious. Carlisle aren't particularly a yard stick either but more on a par with the rest of the league who we have to compete with for runner up and the rest. I've come to the conclusion that whilst losing well against top opposition is better than being dicked, it is still losing.

I'll have a nightcap I think as nobody else is around and open a new box of crisps. I'm told 2001 is a very good year for cheese and onion.
 
Quite a few league 2 sides in the league cup tonight I see although most of them won't be come the final whistle. Just looked it all up and Exeter lost 6 - 3 at Sunderland. Was 3 - 3 at one stage so they put up a reasonable fight it would seem. Carlisle beat QPR away. So we beat Carlisle 4 - 1 and they beat QPR 2 - 1 should mean we would beat QPR 6 - 1 if we played them then. If only it worked like that. There should be a few tired teams come Saturday with a bit of luck with their extra game this week. A cup run is all well and good as long as it doesn't detract from the main aim of getting out of this league. I'll also bet that you wouldn't hear Exeter persons complaining about a Tuesday camel trek to the outer reaches like Gillingham did.
 
I shall request extra security around Kent until Monday sensible.... just in case you throw a wobbly while you are up this way.......some lock picking may occur whilst you are away from the cellar.....we want our crisps.
 
So , 35 years ago today I joined the RN. Seen most of the world , worked with some amazing people and have loved most of it. Bottle of Port and 6 glasses please.

10th May was my rememberance date. Two important things happened on that date in the calendar. The first was I joined her majesties finest and the second was a surgeon took a knife to my nether regions and removed my ability to become a father again. Not sure which was the scariest occasion.

Strewth......I just sat through the England game and fought my eyes to keep them open. Right result but how bleddy boring was that. I don't go much on international games if I'm honest. They always seem to be like watching the old paint dry.

Sterling is a cheating barsteward. That was never a penalty in a million years. Pundits are as bad as the players now. "That wasn't a penalty but then you'd expect him to go down there" was as much of a criticism as any of them were ever going to give. I absolutely hate diving in that way whoever does it. I would hate it just as much if it were my team even if they won a game because of it.
 
Forgot the game was on.....if the penalty came because of a dive by Sterling then that was a sad way for Rooney to beat Charlton's record.

Find it difficult to put Rooney on the same level as Bobby Charlton.....he just doesn't do anything for me.....but he probably doesn't rate me too highly either.
 
I think there are two things about Rooney that don't do it for a lot of people. He's a scouser who plays for Man U. However, as a player I would always want him in my team even if I don't like him much as a person. I don't think you can compare then and now players as the game is quite different even if the object remains the same. Charlton would probably not get into a side now as he wouldn't be fit enough or fast enough if the same as his era. Terrific player in his time though and much nicer, even though he played for Man U as well. The game is so much quicker now and the players are far fitter. Rooney is a great player and is World class as well as being a bit of a World ass. It would have been better if he had broken the record with a legit decision rather than a more than dodgy penalty. It would at least be more memorable. But, he can only score the penalty it isn't his decision to give it.
 
Not many people like Rooney? I wonder why? :emoticon-0102-bigsm. A great achievement for him or any one to score 50 for their country. As you have said he never got the penalty , but still had to score it.. Congratulations to him.. can't see any one beating that now.. <applause>
 
Can I ask does anyone know how many of these 50 goals has been scored in open play by Shrek or are the majority through penalties ?
