It doesn't really do it for me I must be honest. I'm not that interested in cycling and the fact that it's the Olympics doesn't really alter that. And the same for everything else.
It might get going a bit nearer the time but at the moment I am very firmly in the miserable git camp!

Off to bed, but before I go, you have to get a look at the men's sprinting. Two blokes with legs like tree trunks, riding lightweight bikes, trying to out muscle each other. 200m in 10 seconds of fury. Amazing stuff.
I'm with Zenyatta on this one, the Olympics are a load of bollocks. It's just aload of collective sports that aren't popular enough to have big events on there own. So they just grouped aload of minority sports and called them the Olympics.
I know football and Tennis have recently become Olympic sports, but they shouldn't be as the football world cup, and the Tennis grand slams all mean more than Olympic Gold

The sport that winds me up the most is swimming, at every Olympics you get one bloke that wins 8 Gold medals. Because he can beat the same swimmers over and over again, but using a different stroke each time. It's like Usain Bolt beating the same guys running backwards over 100 metres and picking up another gold medal for it. They should have 1 race for every distance, and you can use whichever stroke you want. As it just makes a mockery of the achievements of guys like Sir Steve Redgrave, when 1 swimmer can beat his medal tally in 1 Olympics
I am almost pissing myself in excited anticipation over the Olympic rowing. Bizzarre sport really, eight men trying to get as quickly as they can to a place they are not even looking at with the help of a dwarf! I am just wondering if the fella who jazzed up the boat race will be under house arrest or wearing a tag that will go off if he goes within 5 miles of Dorney Lake?
Never liked the Olympics if I'm honest - too long, drawn out and boring. I find it ironic how everyone is pretending it's summat massive. If it were any other athletics meeting there'd be about 400 people there.
In sporting terms, to the general public, racing is but a small hillock alongside an Olympic Everest. Football? Ftttt.
The Olympics has evolved into a complete caricature of what it was intended to be.
I ask you.....Beach Volleyball and Synchronised Swimming! What a joke! Mickey Mouse events no doubt promoted by USA influence. Four women with stupid coloured paper bows in their hair- sticking their extremities out of the water in unison.
I wonder what the ancient Greeks would have thought of it all? Probably sent Pheidippides to run another marathon to beg the Romans to feed them to the lions.
As for Britain's stance on the event....Well, I have to say a bunch of hypocrites. All the moaning and groaning in the sixties about Russian and East German athletes being "professional status" despite the Communist countries' claim that amateur and professional were meaninless terms under their system.
So what do we do later? Desperate for Gold Medals, we try importing top foreign athletes and give them British status. The Zola Budd saga was a classic example. We're still doing it for the 2012 London event.
When that doesn't work, we eventually accede to professionalism- and that's OK.
And our stand on drugs is the height of hypocrisy. Ever since the Ben Johnson saga in 1988, we've been screaming from the rooftops about lifetime bans for transgressors in this sphere. Yet what went wrong in the case of Christine Ohuruogu? She refused three drugs tests but we got round that one eventually - and restored her Olympic status.
Now that the Olympics are back in the UK, we've saved our piece de resistance 'til the last....Ticket Sales.
Lord Coe, I congratulate you. Bring on the lions!

OK, Cyc. I can't think of a witticism to answer that one- except maybe Australia should apply for Boomerang Throwing to be included in the next Olympics.
Some comments absolute bollocks, but very funny. IMHO it is the Yanks who are striving to wreck the Olympics. The introduction of weird nonsense sports, as mentioned above by a poster, is mostly of their doing. Mentioned before some time ago, one famous remark by a Dallas Cowboy running back "....American Football should definitely be in the Olympics, would be great!". American Football for Christ's sake, who in hell would be playing them, even the Canadians would have to adjust their brand of the game? I dunno, we seem to follow the Yanks over the proverbial cliff............
