I went to the morning athletics session yesterday morning with my 10 year old daughter and it was truly amazing to see the big fella do 20.39 in his heat having eased off just after the bend. He will surely successfully defend the 200 crown. Paddy Power seem to agree at 1/7. The atmosphere throughout the day - particularly in the Park Live area when the Brownlees did their stuff - was inspiring and it was like Xmas day for my littl'un, brilliant. A couple of of other points the gamesmakers/volunteers are superb as were the military guys doing the security. The G4S debacle was surely a blessing in disguise. Surprisingly the athletics stadium was not full. There must have been at least a few thousand empty seats dotted around in large blocks. Some of the best trackside seats only filled up for Bolt and Blake's heats. Must be great to be part of the prawn sandwich brigade!

Wise words Dan and I agree that it was very sporting behaviour from the Aussie minister.

Too much slagging other competitors and Nations on here imo...is this an Olympic thread devoid of sportspersonship?

Cue the usual "banter" excuse...<somersault>
 
Well, on Monday it's all history! Found this thread a bit of light relief from the horseracing threads, which surely have their fair share of 'slagging'? Didn't find it too bad on here, quite enjoyable in fact.
 
Extract from today's daily update from Moneycorp (it's a news and views on foreign exchange but they always open with a comical dig about something):

"It isn't just the Australian media that are unhappy with Britain's relative success at the great London sporting event. The Independent reports that the French cycling team's performance director "had 'a lot of questions' about Team GB, and suggested they were using 'magic wheels'". It is an interesting thought. Maybe the magic wheels (coach Dave Brailsford says they are "special round ones") come from the same skunk works that supplies the magic arrows which gave South Korea 75% of archery gold medals, the magic trainers that make USA so dominant in basketball and the magic balls that provided China's clean sweep in table tennis."
 
The funny thing about the cycling wheels is they are made in France and it was the French team who expressed their concerns about the GB cyclists :emoticon-0102-bigsm
 
Ron i saw one of the quotes Dave Brailsford gave to the Beeb when asked a similar question and he just said the 'wheels were really round, that's what makes them go fast'...<laugh><laugh>

Im afraid when you cant beat them on the track then the mind starts to wander towards the question of what the hell are they doing that we obviously arnt...???

Just so many things to watch and catch up with its been superb to do so... I think i will go into a state of shock when its over as we wont have the daily thrill or excitement watching these athletes trying their stones off to win a medal... Just brilliant watching...
 
Qualification times... World Rankings... Dont know cyc, but i have noticed that for some of the events...
