Multihull Sailing up now. These little babies are not for the novice or the unfit. You progress to these. I'm not familiar with the Nacra 17 class, but if they are anything like other small multihulls they offer thrills you won't believe possible. Very fast, but relatively unstable.

If you mean the race, I competed in the same Round The Island [IOW] Race that Ben Ainslie was involved in a few years back. I've done a couple of years. It can get quite hairy in rough weather. Good fun though.

If you get a chance to go Sailing, having never done it before, say YES, and worry about the details later. Such fun.

My Younger sister won a raffle several years ago & the prize was a day out in a crewed Sailing boat . Never had so much fun before :-) Had a go at the wheel etc . Mum felt " Iffy " so had a Brandy when we got to the I.O.W , she regretted it on the way back <whistle>

Yes, people are very often surprised by how much fun they have. I know you wouldn't think it to look at boats on the water, but it's like being on pocket adventure. Southampton Water and The Solent is like an adventure playground. We're so lucky down here. A sunny Summer's day, a few friends, a decent sea dinghy, like a Wayfarer or similar, a picnic stuffed with hearty food and drink, and a destination beach of choice. There are few better ways to enjoy a day out.
 
I only have to look at a boat to throw up....once had a bumpy ride on the Ryde catamaran and was still poorly the next day. My friend is the same...she intended to travel the world with her new boyfriend who is really serious having been a merchant sailor all his life. On a practice run, they didn't make it past Poole....she still married him, but he sails alone.

Indeed. It's like the Dutch cyclist who fell off the other week. She broke bones in her back but was still smiling on social media the next day. It's a measure of how far they will go to achieve their goals. As we know with MotoGP racers for example, accidents are just part and parcel of the sport they do, and they accept it. A different breed.
