Think of all the gadgets that could fit in a handbag.
I read that the British Medical Journal did a study of Bond's drinking in the books and worked out he's drinking four times the recommended limit for men. He's likely to be impotent, with high risk of liver damage and early death. Best he gets a golden handshake rather than a golden gun, because his DTs are likely to make his aim unworthy of the double-oh rating.

Dunno if it was on in England but Limmy's Homemade Show started last night. His previous sketch show was excellent so I was looking forward to it. It's obviously an attempt to do something different and there were some genuinely LOL moments, though it was more the bizarreness that appealed to me. An acquired taste but worth the effort.

I agree. Daniel Craig bond isn't really Bond. I did like the last couple of films he made though.
Doctor Who, no problem with the doctor becoming a she. It fits within the shows narrative.
Bond though wouldn't really be Bond with a female lead. It would be a different show. If they want to follow a female lead I think a spin-off would be a better idea. Give it the same budget and promotion, it could do well.
I've read that in the future Spielberg has said he wants a woman playing Indiana Jones. I think Indiana Jones could transition better to a female role than James Bond could.
Bond's ability to seduce any woman doesn't translate well to a female role. There aren't enough lesbians for that. And any half attractive woman can already seduce any guy she wants...

The classic bond traits just aren't impressive on a woman. If they want to do a female lead they need to create a new character.
Perhaps they could do a bond movie where Bond wasn't the main lead, but a supporting actor to this new character to help get it established.
Catherine Zeta Jones is probably too old now... Or is she? But she is probably the ultimate in suave.and classy for a woman. I'd watch a spy show centered around her.

For Bond they just need female characters that don't always fall into bed with him

Not all about equality. Hollywood doesn't care about equality. They care about making money and they realise that men like women and women like to be represented too. They realise if they shake things up that translates into money from curious people going to watch.
"Being equal" is last on their mind. As I said, I think Bond isn't a good character to turn into a woman... But I think a similar show with a femal lead could be good and bring new interest.

I kinda get both arguments but the one to keep it male is a bit weak, given the history.
Somebody said it was about the original books but they ran out of them ages ago and if it's really about the books, where's his accent? Either it should be Scottish or Eton affected pronunciation.
He should be dark, not fair like Craig.

So I think we can see quite clearly that Hollywood has no problem ignoring the original Bond concept when it suits.
He was a heavy smoker, too. When was the last time you saw him with a *** in his gob?
And Roger Moore? Sheesh, if they can make it that ridiculous, they can make a woman a killer spy working for MI6.
Nobody seems to have a problem with any changes to the original concept until it comes to gender, which I think has more to do with ingrained attitudes, even those who don't consider themselves part of the "It's PC gone mad" brigade. It reminds me a little of people who say, "I'm not racist but...." which they say because they're about to say something they know is actually racist but they don't want to feel like they are.
It is just a movie. It's be interesting to see a female Bond upsetting expected stereotypes, a.k.a. "classic Bond traits." She doesn't have to be the suave seducer but then she's doesn't have to not be, either.
I read a book a coupla years ago which featured a female mercenary/hitwoman who would dress as a man to fool targets. There are plenty of things they could do to breathe some new life into it, because it's become a bit of a tired self-parody.
I agree, it would be, but it wouldn't be Bond, you change all the characteristics of Bond and it isn't Bond anymore... Might as well do a spin off.
I'd love to see something new, a female lead Bond-esque spy. Give it the budget and same backing give Bond a cameo in it to give it continuity...
I feel if they try to adapt Bond as a woman they will fail. They should start fresh with a new character and not try and fit a woman into the role. I have no problem with a woman in a Bondlike role but Bonds defining characteristics don't translate well across genders in our society.
Right or wrong, a heavy drinking woman that seduces every man she sees doesn't get the same respect in our society. It doesn't fit.

It doesn't stand out with a woman.Book Bond and Film Bond are two different characters. I suspect most people who watch Bond are unfamiliar with how it is different to the books. I do agree that Craig, especially in the early films wasn't very Bond. I remember complaining when his first two came out that it wasn't really Bond anymore, it was just another action film.

Hollywood is just really lazy and should pull its finger out and start making some high quality original films with new, original characters instead of recycling and regurgitating ideas and characters from books and comics all the time in adaptations and remakes

You say "end of discussion" then proceed to continue the discussion. That is as illogical as the argument that every single thing about Bond can change except the gender.
I don't disagree that there's room for another spy movie with a female character but that's not the point. There have already been some but they tend to be joke ones starring Melissa McCarthy.
Hollywood is lazy but so is the automatic reaction that "Bond is a man." That's the reaction, then people argue from that viewpoint, rather than considering, "Hmmm, why do I think gender is non-negotiable but hair colour, smoking, accent, tone, campness level or looking like Hoagy Carmichael can all go? Especially when Judi Dench was so good as M?"
Dr. Who has changed in tone as well as appearance, going from WIlliam Hartnell's disturbing original to Sylvester McCoy's whatever that was, just as Bond has gone from Roger Moore to Daniel Craig and all points in between. Jodie Whittaker will not be the worst Dr. Who ever and I don't see a woman being the worst Bond ever, either, just as I'd be perfectly happy if Idris Elba got the job.
In the interests of avoiding becoming a tired, clichéd, repetitive Bondian franchise, that is the end of my contribution to the discussion.
