The odds of a female Bond have dropped from 33/1 to 12/1. Obviously the "It's PC gone mad" brigade are out in force, because they really care about the character and Ian Fleming's legacy and it has nothing to do with a general kneejerk reactionism to Feminism threatening their masculinity. Obviously.
The Fleming legacy should've been left alone years ago, when they started running out of books. Now they're just making it up as they go along but obviously it's harder for Hollywood to sell a new secret agent than an established franchise.
It's like Dr. Who all over again. Fans were unable to believe a woman could play the Doctor, while continuing to believe a human-male-shaped immortal alien can drive a phone box, which is bigger on the inside than out, through space and time to converse in English with all manner of other aliens, then every few years regenerate into another human-male-shaped immortal alien, with an accent which has gone from northern English to eastern Scottish to posh Midlands to western Scottish. Credulity has its limits.
Like Bond, the Twittics said Dr. Who has always been a man, so should always be a man. You could extend that to everything, if you actually could go back in time: prime minsters, policemen, firemen, accountants, footballers, etc etc. Except for nurses, which should always be women.
A female Bond isn't the fault of political correctness or Feminism. Hollywood has actually learned that
films which pass the Bechdel Test and feature women make more money, even with smaller budgets.
