APPEAL - NOT OUT - Eng 68-2 (Pietersen 30*, Cook 30*)

And still the battle of patience goes on. Starc around the wicket to Pietersen, a scream for leg before, nothing doing. KP forcing into the off side, no chance of penetrating the cover ring. Finally, a single to square leg prevents a third successive maiden. Half an hour until the close.

Eng 76-2 (lead by 11)

A veritable glut of runs from this Agar over. First Pietersen swipes through mid-wicket and turns for three, with Cook then backing off to slice a cut to third man for a rarer-than-hen's-teeth boundary. The lead goes into double figures.

Quite a bit of controversy over the Trott lbw.

Disgraceful reversal of Trott's 'not out' given on the field. Says he hit it, umpire agreed, technology cannot prove he didn't. Would happily go back to umpire on the field only decisions and get rid of DRS altogether.

Umpire agrees it's not out and gets overuled and although technology can't prove it was out, he's given out anyway.

Doesn't seem much point in having umpires.

It was wrong with Trott yesterday, umpire third should have left it with onfield umpire once they had the technical fault with hotspot for me. I like DRS but it has to actually be working!

Big day today. Get a lead of 250 plus I think we'll win. That is a big ask though. Come on Chef and KP!

APPEAL - NOT OUT - Eng 232-6 (lead of 167)

Left-arm spin of Ashton Agar on the resumption, which sees the sun perhaps not burning quite as brightly in Nottingham. Appeal as Broad kicks away on off stump, not out. Interestingly, it would have hit the stumps, but the Aussies have no reviews left. You have a bat, Stuart. My advice would be to use it.

16:15:
Eng 247-6 (Bell 58*, Broad 12*)

Decisions, decisions for Michael Clarke. Attack for wickets? That's fine, but too many gaps would give England the chance to get away. Runs are so important. An in-out field for Peter Siddle, scouts on the boundary, but catchers too. Singles available, with Broad also deflecting one of his hip for four leg byes. England inching, clawing towards a 200 lead.
