So we get Barca in champions league group stages, what reception will he get?

He's both a club hero and a club disgrace. I'm glad he's leaving (as long as we replace him wisely), but I won't have any malice towards him at Barca.

He didn't try to Michael Owen his way out of the club.
He didn't turn in a transfer request like Torres.

He hasn't shown specific loyalty to the club- but he hasn't tried to twist a knife in our backs either... although he'll have plenty of media opportunities to do that over the next 4 months.

Standing ovation (at the moment)...

But as Derek says, he might start criticising the club and Rodgers in the media over the next couple of months which could change stuff massively.

The guy is the reason that we're back in the CL and his legacy, if wisely spent (big IF) will help us maintain that. I for one would stand and applaud him if he returned....assuming he doesn't bad mouth the club or Rodgers, who has had nothing but praise for him. I see no reason why he should though.

I don't recall him bad mouthing Ajax after leaving so I don't see why he will here unless he truly feels he's been mis-treated. At this point, I'd have to question the club since Reina, Torres, Mascherano, etc all did the same.

in fact he was bacjk there getting a standing ovation cos the fans loved him and i'll bet if he went back agian they'd d the same

frankly.. we stood by him and have made a massive profit and achieved a milestone on our development progress on hsi back so we should be wishing the mad rabid racist all the best.

reina is a specific back stabbing issue.
torres and maschernao are legacy issues actually under the "old regime" and dealing with torres wanting to go in FSG first 3 month in.

Benyoun for exaple was a direct rafa issue.

Only reina to my mind is a today issue and its specifically down to the same reason i went mad at it. you signed a guy then whether or not pepe would go to toss him out on loan to napoli for pure reasons of wage was bad and broke the relationship and so rodgers has to live with it... but obviously second in the table and 75mil i nthe back pocket makes that much easier.

Old management but not old ownership. Ayre would have been in control still.

Of those three, Pepe may have a bit of a genuine case, however, even then there were reports he was angling for a move to Barca when he became aware that they may want to sign him, so I guess Rodgers had to move on, not our fault no one wants him now (at the price we want to sell him for)..
Torres and Mash may have bad mouth'd us to cover the manner of the exit they engineered, Torres handing in a Transfer Request and Mash downing tools, that isn't any of our fault!

It is with a heavy heart that I leave Liverpool for a new life and new challenges in Spain. Both me and my family have fallen in love with this club and with the city.

But most of all I have fallen in love with the incredible fans. You have always supported me and we, as a family, will never forget it, we will always be Liverpool supporters.

I hope you can all understand why I have made this decision. This club did all they could to get me to stay, but playing and living in Spain, where my wife's family live, is a lifelong dream and ambition. I believe now the timing is right.

I wish Brendan Rodgers and the team well for the future. The club is in great hands and I'm sure will be successful again next season.

I am very proud I have played my part in helping to return Liverpool to the elite of the Premier League and in particular back into the Champions League.

Thank you again for some great moments and memories. You'll Never Walk Alone.

Brendan Rodgers said:
Luis is a very special talent and I thank him for the role he has played in the team in the past two years, during my time at Liverpool.

I think he would be the first to accept he has improved as a player over that period, along with the team and has benefited from being here, as we have benefited from him.

The club have done all they can over a sustained period of time to try to keep Luis at Liverpool. It is with great reluctance and following lengthy discussions we have eventually agreed to his wishes to move to Spain for new experiences and challenges. We wish him and his young family well; we will always consider them to be friends.

We are focused on the future, as we strive to continue with the progress we have made and build on last season's excellent Barclays Premier League campaign.

I am confident we will improve the team further and will be stronger for this coming season, when we will be competing on all fronts; domestically and in the greatest club competition in the world, the Champions League.

If there is one thing the history of this great club teaches us, it is that Liverpool FC is bigger than any individual. I hope our supporters continue to dream and believe that we are moving forward and with continued improvement and progression, together we will bring the success we all crave and deserve.

Glad it's all finally green sorted. Didn't really want it dragging on all summer. Gutted he's gone, best player I've ever seen play for us in terms of natural ability and skill.

Hope he out performs Messi and Neymar in a Barca shirt next year and gets his head sorted out.

Me too, can sort of guess it was done our terms..
1 - Sale to be done quickly
2 - Value of Release Clause to be met, and
3 - Payment upfront..

Still nearly 2 months left, gives us more than enough time to get the players we need..

Come on G. Under the Old Ownership, Ayre had a far more minor role to play. He did as he was told rather than being in control. Your taking that just a bit too far.
