Looks a very tough run and the two home games against our fellow promoted sides will be absolutely crucial.

I'm gonna go for a relatively optimistic 4-5 points.

Honestly if we don’t get 6 points from this lot I think we are doomed.

We absolutely love losing the ‘must wins’ and beating the so called big teams so I’m gonna go with a classic Saints completely unexpected…

City - L (but play Pep really well at his own game)

United (H)- 2-1 narrow loss to some bent refeering decisions. Gives a smidgen of hope.

Ipswich (H)- 1-1 draw. Happy clappers feel vindicated. They start to convince themselves we'll be fine. Lots of smugness about trusting the process

Bournemouth (A)- 2-0 Loss. Little cherries fans **** themselves silly over a victory in their cup final. The match thread is massively derailed on what makes a derby. The first Martin out poll from last season is resurrected.

Arsenal (A) The mods shut down the Martin out poll followed by a heavy heavy defeat. Some strong grumblings from the usual posters on here.

Leicester (H) 2-0 loss. Full on teddies out of the pram on the match thread. Arguments rage on until the next game thread, lots of insults between posters deleted by the mods. New poll goes up.

City (A) 5-0 loss. The tide starts to turn on not606, Saint's fans on twitter have already imploded. Lots of angry letters in the echo. Some fat bloke threatens to go on hunger strike until Martin is binned

It took Burnley and Luton seven games to get a win last season and it took Sheffield United until the 11th game of the season. So, those are my yardsticks... <whistle>

We average 1000 passes per game. Would be 1002 but the last 2 get intercepted when passing between centre backs and gift the opposition 2 goals in every game.

We have a total of 5 shots across all the games. 4 of which are Armstrong shooting from 35 yards when he realises that centre backs can walk faster than his top speed at this level. The other is a header from a corner from, I don’t know, Stephens which goes miles over the bar.

We keep the ball very nicely between the boxes for 99% of the game but look utterly **** going forward and make comical mistakes at the back which means we lose every game despite looking solid for 99% of the game. Martin says it’s not that you lose it’s how you lose and is incredibly proud of the players for being brave and we are mint.

If we didn't have other (hopefully superior) options that will hopefully now come into the team and make us better I'd be pretty negative going into this run. I'm not massively confident or positive, but because we haven't necessarily seen our best team for a run of games yet, I'm hopeful that we will improve and start to pick up some results. I'm going for 7 points, 2 wins and a draw. I also reserve the right to throw my toys out the pram and change that to 0 when it turns out that the new players aren't enough to make a difference.

Yeah that's the million dollar question and what makes this run so hard to predict.
 
I think that Russ will use this international break to good effect, by employing several psychologists, a shaman and a white witch, all of whom will take personal responsibility for our upturn in footballing fortunes, when we hold out against Man U and get a point. We'll then realise the power of positive thought, and get no more points, but feel really good about it.

I honestly can't predict how many points we'll get. It's really difficult to know how we'll get on when most our new signings haven't played much in the PL for us yet. Back to back home games is a big opportunity to kick start our season. I know the first one is against Man United but they are under all sorts of pressure already and they can certainly be got at. Problem is they're most vulnerable against high presssing teams and that's not Martin's style at all. Ipswich has the feel of a must win already, as does Leicester. If we can win both of those games and pick up a couple of draws somewhere that would be a good haul.
