My main home is in southeast Essex, and I have another place in southwest Suffolk.
I grew up in Thamesmead, hence why I support Charlton, but I lived in Ponders End/Edmonton for many years.
I travel a lot, both home and abroad.
Recently, they've completely bulldozed Ponders End High Street where the library and police station used to be. Place is almost unrecognisable. And the 4 blocks of flats by Ponders End Station are making way for swanky apartments. never thought i'd see gentrification there.
And all the decent boozers have gone. The Beef & Barrel was my local for years.
Funny how places change, eh? Just look at Edmonton Green, for example. They've thrown millions at the place, yet it's still an absolute dump.
I miss the old place, but moving away was the best thing I ever did.

Originally from Wood Green but spent most of my childhood in Ponders End/Edmonton. My parents still live in Ponders End so i'm there quite often.
I remember the Beef and Barrel and the White Hart (both sadly gone). The Goat is still doing well though
My father-in-law lives just off Nightingale.
Do you remember the Boundary House? I held my wedding reception in there. Someone told me it's now a knocking shop.
Is it really? I know that it hasn't been a pub in ages. My uncle used to live at the very beginning of Galliard Road so we'd pop in there now and again but I'm going back at least 25 years now.
That's what I heard. And I can well believe it.
I've got a mate who lives on Galliard, near to the park entrance.
It's a small world.
I used to go to Galliard Primary School and spent most of the summer holidays playing in Jubilee Park. There was also a lido on Houndsfield Road (hertford road side of the park). The 70s and 80s was a great time to live around there. Starting going downhill after that or maybe it's just that I started hanging out in better areas as I got older and my frame of reference changed.
What really makes me laugh though, is that the Cock Tavern, in my time one of the roughest, racist pubs around is now a Turkish restaurant.

And The Cock in Palmers Green, once a notorious Irish boozer, is now a Polish Supermarket. Nothing stays the same.

Did you know The Fox in Palmers Green Ponders? Legendary boozer, which I drove past the other day. All boarded up
Bloody hell! I was a regular in The Fox during the mid to late 90s. My mate Shane was bar manager and lived upstairs. Great memories.
Does that mean the comedy club has closed?

The comedy club was in an annexe round the back. I saw Phil Jupitus and Sean Hughes perform there.
I was drinking a lot back then, it’s all a bit hazy. I did know one or two of the regulars, a pretty colourful bunch, you might say. Maybe we played each other at pool Ponders.
On another note, I saw Sean Hughes perform what must have been one of his last ever shows, in the West End. Bumped into him in Sainsbury’s in Muswell Hill shortly afterwards, so I went and said hello and told him how much I’d enjoyed his show. Found him very friendly and warm. A few weeks later I read that he was dead. R.I.P. Sean, genuinely funny bastard.
I played in a pool league in my youth. I won more than I lost so I was pretty handy.
I was still pretty good even after misplacing my left hand index finger. In fact, it helped when you have the white hard on the cush.
These days I don't play it much. I can either be terrible or for some reason my eye is in and I'm reliving my heyday.

When I lived in Amsterdam there was a pool hall/coffee shop. First time i went there we had a smoke while we waited for a table. I thought I was going to be rubbish once we got on, given that I was off my tits. Complete opposite was true. I was seeing shots off multiple cushions and balls that I normally wouldn't have seen. I highly recommend White Widow for pool performance enhancing purposes.
