They sold off some assets apparently to release about £500m.

BUT they have double that amount in debt as well as certain La Liga/UEFA? rules which they need to adhere to, to balance the books.

I don't think they're now flush with money from that asset sale.

I really don't mind if it takes a whole season, as long as you can see a difference in style, play and commitment from the players and there are clear signs of improvement and we're heading in the right direction.

One big sign of this will be the body language of the players. If they believe in it, it will show in their performance regardless and they won't be walking around like a bunch of miserable gits.

Hopefully we'll see some leaders come through on the pitch also. Leaders are easier to create when there's decent tactics so they know what they're supposed to be doing!
I agree that it will take months for this to develop into something that we will distinctively see as a difference in our style. I think we will be well into the winter to start clicking if we start the season without extra players added.

Regarding whether or not the players will buy into it, I really don’t think they should get to have a say at this point. If a player doesn’t buy into it, get rid of them in January and get a replacement. Those days should be long gone of players trying to dictate how they should play.

It does now concern me slightly that a player who will be absolute key to all this in de Jong has all gone very quiet.

I'm looking at it glass half full, and it's because the details are now being finalised.
This deal should have been done and dusted!! The damage that we are doing letting this drag on is pathetic! The team heads out to Australia in few days and here we are still not fully certain if the main target is even achievable.

There are no excuses why this should have taken this long.

What damage?

There may not be excuses, but there are plenty of reasons.

Which have been discussed (and ignored by you) on numerous occasions.

In case it hasn't been seen in my other post -

Marca say they have seen De Jong's Barcelona contract and it confirms the Dutchman agreed to a major restructuring of his contract within an overall extension that was designed to help the Catalan giants through the pandemic.

Essentially, Marca says De Jong had his salary reduced to €3m in 2020-21 and €6m last season. Starting from next season, he is due to earn €18m for the next three years - and €19m in the final year.

Evidently, if he was to leave for United now, De Jong would want some kind of compensation for the money he should have earned by now but hasn't.

Money is the reason! What else is there to it?

As for what damage… this nonsense with CR is indirectly tied to our lack of action in the market for so long. We are also heading far away to the other side of the world and for a team that is rebuilding, we should have had all the key players tied down before heading out given how many we’ve lost in the midfield.

Such a convoluted crazy stuff! Why did we even bother with this target? Barca is a disaster!

To be fair all of the Barca players have agreed to similar deals - all except Messi which is why he was shipped out to PSG. Barca have a massive hole in their finances - €500m wouldn't cover half of it, La Liga are on their tail and, of course, it is oil money and corrupt practice that is at the heart of it. If we manage to pull this off it will be a huge feather in the cap for all involved. If it doesn't, it will most probably be down to Barca rather than anything we tried to do.

We have apparently made £51m bid for Antony, but Ajax wants £20m more. That better not be true and if it is, we should walk away quickly.

Antony made 78 appearances for Ajax with 22 goals and 19 assists. That is not a £70m valuation. Ajax has been smoking some Dutch crackers lately.

'What the f*** are you doing?': Pitchside mic picks up Erik ten Hag laying into his Man United stars for failing to play in his style... after David de Gea kicked long and Charlie Savage didn't drop in to help

This man is definitely my type of bastardardized manager.

2nd and 3rd goals today were a great example of the one touch movement that ETH is trying to instil into the team and also of the players acceptance and understanding of it.

I agree and I have full faith in ETH. However, he must learn from this summer window that we need to always have contingency plans to build the squad up. We can’t get hung up on any single player at this point. We don’t have such luxury. We must be decisive and execute with intent.

Did you read the article because it specifically addresses that.

Very well I might add as well.

Chief told me to stop reading anything online, Treble. So no! :embarrassed:

Mate we're online right now so you've already broken that rule!

Read it, it's nothing new but it talks a lot of sense and actually reinforces why we need to be patient, especially in this transfer window and that we may not see the impact of Ten Hag until the next one.

I couldn’t access it actually. The link from here in Canada sends me back to the homepage of the gambling site.
