Not surprised. He’s presided over one of the worst periods in our history. Thank goodness it was short. I know people here blame the previous manager but a good manager would have sorted things despite all the problems . Ten Haag could do without him trying to influence him as he’s been so awful and there is not even evidence that there been any conversation never mind some debrief sessions. Ten Haag needs to start with a blank sheet and consultancy from a dreadful incompetent manager wouldn’t have helped one ounce.

Ralf has done his job and Erik now says he will draw his own line (as he should)
I strongly suspect Erik doesn't want a consultant once he moves in because he's his own man and long may that continue.

History will judge the appointment of Rangnick as one of the worst decisions ever. Might as well have left \ole in place and ended up in the same position in the league without all the **** fallout that Rangnick has brought with him. Now it seems he's not even god enough to act as consultant - who'd have guessed.

He managed however to make us competitive for a time esp during the interim period but was found out in key or difficult matches. But after the Ole mistake, you would have thought the execs would have learnt their lesson and appointed a decent interim. Honestly I am still trying to work out what Rangnick did during his tenure. He is not a coach nor is he a manager. And there is no doubt he would have been a crap consultant.

But you still lament this guy far more than the man that wasted millions in the transfer market across three season. Heck, GF thinks Ole should have been left in the job too. You both had fixation on this guy before his first game too. What is the logic here other than you’re still angry about the way Ole turned out?

I didn't answer him because it's pointless, even though he's been told many times that he doesn't understand the reason Ralf was brought in he still goes on and on about him being a **** manager.

You make some good points but you still state that this was about Ole. Nothing to do with him at all. Unlike GF I didn’t think he could stay. I called for him to go months before he was sacked. His departure was always imminent. Which half a decent “interim” are we even referring to? Also, you think the humiliation came after Rangnick joined? Did you type that with a straight face and were you living under a rock prior to his appointment?

What is the obsession with fourth place? Is that really some sort of measurement of success for a club with one of the highest wage bill in the land that spends heavily on transfers? Even watching Tottenham getting top 4 has not convinced me that Conte is the right man for the club. Not because he isn’t a great manager, but mostly because the club needs to go back to the basics and rebuild from ground up. Conte is not a man for that. Quick fix is not what we need.

Also, what matters is that Rangnick was never going be a permanent appointment. We also didn’t bother buy any players in January because the board had resigned to a non-eventful season after the horrible first twelve games but the appointment of Rangnick was part of a broader strategic plan and it was always about buying more time. 1/ Give the club time to get a proper full time manager that can build. Not simply another celebrity manager that was looking for work. 2/ Give the club time to truly reevaluate the full football structure at the club both on and off the field and build a system that can sustain the club into the coming future.

This club has made many horrible mistakes in recent times. It is deep negligence of the recent history to suggest that Rangnick’s appointment as an “interim” manager is anywhere near the top of that list.

I don't disagree, my point is the appointment of some ****wit whose legacy seems to be a disunited and dispirited squad. may as well have left Ole - as bad as he was, or put Carrick in charge while the selection process for a new manager was underway. If the club didn't already know who the piss takers/lazy arses were then they need shooting. Everyone at the club knows who the problem players are/were - it isn't rocket science so quite why someone had to be brought in who had no managerial/coaching experience to tell the club what everyone already knew is beyond me.

No he was contracted to stay 2 years as a highly paid consultant to the management team. But after Ten Haag assessed his performance he was quite rightly given the boot in that role. They tried to sugar coat it for his pride but as some here agree : why appoint a complete half-wit as a manager even if we needed to assess the players and the team and feed back to the permanent manager. Surely I cannot believe he was the only one in the world available who could have done that latter task.

I think you have a narrow view of the realities of modern sport. Football is as much a business as Tesco, revenues drive the business forward, be that sponsorships, merchandising, digital partnerships - whatever. Without the financial resources that these external financial partnerships bring, this club cannot survive in the modern world. It is essential that the club continues to drive up revenues from all streams, not just match-day receipts which form a small percentage of our overall income. To even imagine that on-pitch success is the key to financial success is naïve, every brand, any major brand (and we are a global brand) needs to maximise revenues in order to sustain the massive costs of running the club.

Tbh GF I just don't want to go over it all again, or us arguing. The past 12 months has been toxic on here at times and I accept my part in that and I don't want it anymore.

Can we pls just look forward and get behind the new guy and talk about that. End of the day we're all United supporters, all want our club to do well and I think we all agree there's a lot to be optimistic about.
