Reading reports that Ancelotti is under consideration. Now that his eyebrows seem to be in sync I'd have him. He seems to bring stability to each of his teams, he's been there, done that so has no problems with egos and big challenges.
That’s a tough one for me, Glazer. He’s been all over the place in the league. I would prefer a manager that isn’t subject to merry go round. We need someone that will be committed for at least three to four years.Reading reports that Ancelotti is under consideration. Now that his eyebrows seem to be in sync I'd have him. Mate with the money we pay they will all commit to 3 or 4 years, it's what they do in that time that counts. That’s a tough one for me, Glazer. He’s been all over the place in the league. We need someone who is going to go along similar lines to what Ralf is trying to install but with the authority and respect to drive it on, either that or we will be starting all over again.Ten years ago maybe, not now.
Kind of ironic as he'd have been ideal after Fergie.
We need a new script, a fresh approach now.
We need someone who is going to go along similar lines to what Ralf is trying to install but with the authority and respect to drive it on, either that or we will be starting all over again.
That’s what I mean by 3-4 years, at least. Even for the best candidate, we shouldn’t expect immediate return to success given the structural damage that the club is now trying to arrest. We need someone who is going to go along similar lines to what Ralf is trying to install but with the authority and respect to drive it on, either that or we will be starting all over again.
I absolutely second that!I still think we need root and brach rebuild, and that Ten Haag would be that man, but Ancelotti is a better bet than Pochettino for me.
I’ve always said that the manager was/is only part of the puzzle. The whole structure of the football side of the club needed sorting once Fergie retired. He run the whole show before while the others in the hierarchy just focussed on the money side. That the recruiting of managers and players were disasters and still are shouldn’t have come as a surprise to anyone. No one with enough footballing experience was responsible for due diligence when making appointments. Have got the right structure now? Are we learning from the more successful clubs on manager (and player) appointments?
Ancelotti should have been a candidate whenever there was a “vacancy” at the club. But then there were these criteria about not fitting the club etc. Just like Conte didn’t fit apparently. What does that even mean? He is too aggressive or wants success at all costs? Just like Mourinho, is Ancelotti ten years too late? Ten Haag to me looks like a more reasonable punt but please give him time.
Rant over. Sorry for the pessimism. If truth be told football and Utd are secondary in my mind as we enter the most dangerous and dreadful period in my lifetime. Never thought that peace was so fragile and we’ve been brought so close to a catastrophic world war.
And BTW even if we have the right structures, have we got the right people in post? Are the directors the top people available? Are Fletcher and the other director whose name I can’t recall the best?
It's not something that's not already been said, and you're also absolutely right.
Since Ferguson and Gill left, the club has been mismanaged from top to bottom.
The only reasonable apponitment we made was Moyes, but the job proved to be too big for him. Even then, he should have stayed till season end.
After that, every single managerial appointment has been utter gash. The likes of Woodward signed big name players on stupid salaries and assumed the club would run itself, he has so much to answer for. Ultimately though, the Glazers employed him and stand accountable for absolutely everything.
What we should have done when it was obvious van Gaal wasn't fit for purpose was - pursue Guardiola, pursue Klopp, pursue Ancelotti (years ago, not now ffs) when there was an imminent availabilty at our club for them to fill.
Klopp wasn't even ****ing considered ffs! We had our arses out for the next available unemployed bloke, Mourinho, who proved to be a big mistake as well.
Can't even bring myself to mention Jose's replacement, other than he was also patently the wrong man.
We have to assume they will get it right this time, right? That while Rangnick is seeing the season out, they are sorting out the plan for the next man, surely?
I'd still like to think Loius Enrique is in the mix somewhere but the field is beggining to thin out.
I think this from Rangnick today says where we're heading as far as the next manager is concerned. Looks to me like a Ten Hag type appointment.
"What is obvious, not only with Manchester City but also with Liverpool, they've had continuity and consistency on their position of manager and head coach for five or six years," said Rangnick.
"They have a very clear identity, clear idea of how they want to play. I know Jurgen in person and Pep from in Germany when he was at Bayern Munich, he also has a clear idea how he wants to play.
"This idea is the headline for everything that happens in the club, for recruitment, for any new players that they sign or at one stage will sell. This is the secret behind their success that they exactly know how they want to play.
"You can also call it a corporate identity and this is their guideline for everything they do, for new players, staff members, for experts in different areas of the game that have become more important. This is what all the top clubs in Europe have in common and something Manchester United needs to be developed and improved in the next couple of years."
