I think there are 2 ways to look at this. For me he did fail, he had a set task and didn't achieve it. However the word failure suggests blame and for me - and I'm guessing most people - he certainly wasn't in any way to blame.

He was handed an almost impossible task, everyone recognised it as that and it proved to be the case. I don't think Jose, Ancellotti, Pep or Zidane could've done any better.

Unless you are brave and daft.

He'd never say he wasn't open to stay unless he had a cert lined up... or he was so way off the mark with the owners he would risk walking.

Why have another meeting next week? He knows there will/is interest in him, surely he would have said in this week's meeting, after Sunday I am off.....

I think he likes the idea of building a club, career wise it leads to a bigger job.... who do you employ :
A - I lead a time in a poor state to relegation, then jumped ship to another club , and fought a relegation battle

B - I was brought in to save a team from relegation, unfortunately I was not able to do so. However I restructured the team and the club, won promotion on a limited budget, and kept them up after promotion

He obviously wants a big job, rightly so, he would be better served long term with us.

My guess is he told the board he would stay if they let him implement his vision and is now waiting for them to agree

I agree with all of that, apart from the last line.. you dont know.
that line leaves the right to levy abuse at certain parties, when in truth, it is mere speculation.

It was the quotes in the beeb article.

Things like:

Perhaps he might feel the continuing festering disharmony between supporters and the clowns in charge, as being unhelpful.

Maybe, when he turns round to the bench to 'fist pump' (ooooo err missus) a goal and looks up to the empty West Stand, and think WTF?

He needs to analyse how Watford will help his career. Finish in the top 8 or get the sack. If I finish 9th, will other clubs be willing to give me a job? If I finish 15th, will other clubs be willing to give me a job? I guess the one guarantee is that at least 6-7 prem jobs will become available at some point within the next 15 months. Stick or twist? Sitting outside the top 6 in the championship would be career suicide in terms of future prem jobs.
