Wouldn't it just be nice everyone if we didn't need to have to resort to symbols or actions or protests to get things done.

Wouldn't it be nice if just did it...

Okay cloud cuckoo land.

You keep going on about the precedent set for raised, clenched fists in Mexico 68, Will. You do realise the Black Power movement was militant and prepared to use violence to achieve its aims?

You do know that the sportsmen didn’t and neither have these?

Yeah that’s far out there Beth

But if they use the salute of a violent group of activists, what message are they trying to send? And are we all supposed to applaud it at a football stadium?

So raising your hand a loft is a sign of a violent group of activists. **** I just did it in celebration after beating hubbie at competitive university challenge

Raising it aloft with a clenched fist is a sign of the militant Black Power movement.

Raising it aloft with a flat palm is a Nazi salute.

See the significance of both, Beth?

Whilst I agree with what he says, I feel a bit uncomfortable with his final sentence...

You obviously didn't read the full statement as that's exactly what he said.....

For every game where the players choose to take the knee, I would like all of our fans to join me in applauding this gesture to ensure our players know we fully support them.

Having this forced on the fans is not the way ahead. It could lead to vilification between fans and players, and between players themselves. Let those who wish to take the knee carry on, and for the few seconds it takes let people watch - then when they stand up, the game begins and the crowd cheers and claps anyway, all the players feel the love, the fans feel good and not put upon, and everyone hopes this will help spur the home side to victory now their fans are back in the stadium. Surely that's what having fans back in stadiums is all about? Showing how much you've missed being away from your club, so happy that it looks like they're going to make it through this debacle, you may get to see them.again at some stage in the future but who knows when, you should be more bothered about cheering your team to victory.

I think my action was more black power than Nazi salute

It is my go to celebration of a win

and the England flag has always been associated with football hooligans and racist organisations...

As you well know, Will, the England flag goes back many centuries and has only recently been associated with right wing hooligans.

As far as I'm aware, the raised clenched fist by a black man is SOLELY related to the Black Power movement.

The Nazi's stole the Roman salute for themselves, and it will be forever associated with the Third Reich

So ok if the England flag goes back years is it associated with colonisation then? Surely not a good thing.

Seriously though there are literally hundreds if not thousands of people claiming they are against it due to it representing Marxism, barely anyone has mentioned the salute, yet I’ve not seen one person be able to define Marxism let alone which aspects of Marxism they are against. That being the case they are clearly lying about their objections so it must be something else. I’ll grant you this is Facebook.

So the club have now issued a further statement.
Players from both teams will stand together shoulder to shoulder and hold a banner giving their support to anti racism is sport.

Then some of our players will take a knee as so will some of theirs. Up to the individual.

Is everyone satisfied

It’s not a political statement in sport it’s a show of support to an equalities movement. Even the fist, Mexico 68.

Strange that people get so up tight when they think people are making assumptions as to what their motivations are yet are happy to make unfounded assumptions as to the supposed political motivations of these sportsmen.[/QUOTE]

Yet you did exactly the say by making the assumption that the people that booed are racist - some might assume that you are a hypocrite!!

Edit: Not sure why it isn't being shown on my screen but this is in response to @TC

Nope I gave other options as well.

Right lets put this simply, what do you genuinely believe the motivations are from these athletes/sportsmen and women? They can either be supporting an anti racism stance, they can be supporting a black power message in respect of black people being powerful and that they shouldn't be subject to inequality so a similar stance, they support those who have set up a political agenda under the BLM banner, or they are saying black people are more powerful than others. The problem with the last two options are that the only statements from either players or clubs have clearly stated it is the first option and I've not seen one single person within UK sport say otherwise.

Where as people booing are either doing it because they think these players are doing it for the last two reasons above despite being told this is not the case, so ignoring what they are being advised, not sure why they would be doing that but sounds a bit stupid and ignorant to me, if I was going to boo someone/people I think I'd know what I'm doing it for. They feel bored by an equality issue which makes them ignorant and I don't see this happening when there are other shows of respect or solidarity such as when a minutes silence is held so if they can respect that... why boo? It seems unlikely. They don't believe in racial equality, which makes them racist, they don't like black people which makes them racist....

I've seen barely anyone mention the raised fist being the reason, think including the two on this thread it's a total of three. The one on social media mentioned the 68 Olympics as an answer, my reply to that was to advise him the US Olympic committee have admitted they were wrong to have removed their medals and reinstated them, so history within sport has a president that it's seen as a valid protest. Whereas I have seen hundreds of comments on social media stating it's due to BLM Marxism, where myself and others have questioned them what Marxism is and what aspects of Marxism they are against, I've not seen one single person be able to answer that question, the few that have tried haven't described Marxism in any shape or form, so why are they using that term? Seems very odd to use a term you don't understand and as the majority didn't even offer up their explanation, a lot of these people must know they had no idea why they were using it, why would someone offer up a phony reason to support the booing, there might be other reasons but the obvious one to me is that they are trying to hide their genuine objection to an equalities statement is they don't like equality... which makes them .... drum roll....

Sounds admirable. Let's hope the football lives up to the solid start

Yeah Goldie.

Let's hope at the end of the match all we can talk about is the brilliance of our football, the brilliance of our defence and the five brilliant goald

In my opinion, taking the knee takes like what, 6 or 7 seconds? For me it's fine and a personal choice...Some will agree, some will disagree. That's life.

Here is an idea..bring back the old round the pole half time challenge, take the knee and then shoot past Jude the cat.. :-)
