Hull City Supporters’ Trust secures the KC Stadium as an Asset of Community Value

Thanks to a nomination from the Hull City Supporters’ Trust, the KC Stadium has joined a short (but growing) list of stadia that are listed as Assets of Community Value (ACV) under the Localism Act 2011, putting it alongside Manchester United’s Old Trafford and Newcastle United’s St James’ Park.
The listing, which is for five years, includes a right to bid should the stadium be put up for sale. A right to bid can be lodged by a community interest group within six weeks, with finance secured in a period of up to four-and-a-half months.
This means that the KC Stadium cannot be sold without the local community being told about it, or being given the opportunity to bid for the stadium themselves, should the local authority choose to sell their asset.
Mark Gretton, the Interim Chair of the Supporters’ Trust, welcomed Hull City Council’s decision. He said:
“Listing the stadium as an Asset of Community Value is of huge symbolic importance. In any discussion over the stadium’s future, the ACV listing serves as a timely reminder that the fans – as much as, if not more than, the owners and leaseholders – have a vested interest in the KC.
“The Trust believes that supporters should have a key role to play in the KC Stadium, an asset that was explicitly developed for the benefit of the local community but currently has no discernible community engagement in its management or operation. The stadium’s listing as an ACV supports the original vision.
”We’d like to thank Hull City Council for approving the nomination and Jacqui Forster from Supporters’ Direct for her guidance in preparing our application.”
