Yes, in the 2014-2015 season, we only had Jerome and Hooper and I believe far more goals were scored by midfielders (I seem to remember we'd 3 midfielders with 10 or more goals) than our 2 strikers.
But we've sold one of our top goalscoring midfielders as well this window though? So we have only got Madders for that.

I've been wondering about that, FML. Given that Srbeny is new to the English game, there seems to be a big risk if Oliveira gets injured. Both Watkins and Hernandez can also play as a striker, but that seems to be more of a stopgap than a solution.
Agreed with that.

Watkins can't play striker, and Hernandez said he wasn't that keen down the middle. He likes to play wide. Wonder what his composure and finishing is like.

I think if there is another striker it will probably have to be on loan.

Otherwise, will be another German like Srbeny, which will be in the same risk category as Srbeny. Although that would give you double the chances of it working.

Cough cough, ahem <whistle>

McGovern - 33
Jarvis - 31
Klose - 29, turns 30 in May
Vrancic - 28, turns 29 in May
Pinto 28 yrs 22 days

Your point is still valid though, it has been a radicle age transformation, with that said a number of the new recruits have been mid twenties, a sensible policy of buying some approaching their peak and a number of youngsters to develop

Bah!

You can't include Jarvis in that list GM - his age may be 31 but his legs tell us he's 77 !!

Bah !

Would they loan him to be a likely 3rd choice? He may impress and allow them to shift him on, but when you loan a player you want them to play and I doubt he'd get much game time with us.

Bah!

Good point, but they could see it as a try before you buy loan but that would depend on the asking price after the loan. Also a good spot on McGovern, Klose and Jarvis being over 28, but I'm not going to concede 29 in May as being over 28! <laugh>

We could have done with a James Wilson type loan. That's a kind of Loan we probably need. No fee, and just provides cover. Even as a 3rd choice he'll get minutes, and Srbeny might take a while to settle into the country anyway.

I guess the theory is that a loanee striker isn't coming to be third choice, but if he ends up being third choice behind a lackluster Oliveira and a striker who has never played in England, then that probably tells both clubs all they need to know about a player. Obviously it's never quite as straightforward as that, but given our profligacy in front of goal, you'd hope any new striker would be given a fair chance.

On a related note, the above is why I don't have great hopes for Fonkeu or Abrahams. I would have thought one of them would have at least made the bench in recent weeks, or have been rumoured to be going out on loan, if Farke thought they were anywhere near ready.

DF has recently said that Abraham's 'isn't quite ready yet', which suggests that he might be considered soon, but the final few matches as sub are more likely. He and Fonkeu only signed on this year, so I'm hopeful they'll make it eventually.

Yes, I'm fairly confident that both may make the step up when the squad returns for training in the summer.

If he is good enough to activate the fee addons (I'm not convinced) then this is decent business. He plainly hasn't impressed at CR and isn't seen as an option so good luck to him, I guess the only reason he got a stay of execution was the new regime, I guess this last year of wages was not that much of a waste to give him one last chance.

Bah!

Yes, in spite of his various loans, he obviously hasn't impressed, so he may make the grade in the Den.

I'd guess most of his small wages would have been paid by the loans and possibly loan fees. He seems happy to be going there so good luck to him.

I really thought he would become a first team regular for us. Thought he was one of the stand out players for us in the youth cup run, though he played CD I believe (Wyatt was LB ).

Barnsley paid around £1.1m for McGeehan this summer, despite the broken leg he had at the time. To be loaned out this quickly probably suggests he's either not the player he was before the injury, or his league 2 performances haven't translated into being able to cope in the championship.

I thought McGeehan was good too and he got rave reviews whilst at the Hatters and according to Wiki, he's now on loan at The Iron (that fishy plaice).

Edit - I see Martin Penney reckons we shouldn't accept less than £22M for JM and he also doubts how much of any fee will be available to DF!! <yikes>

I agree with him £22m for a bright british prospect like Madders is the minimum we should look for. In the summer (If we still have him by then!) I can see a little bit of a bidding war, however I think it will more than anything come down to what's best for Madders, he seems to have his head screwed on, will he realistically see game time at Citeh, Manure etc, Spuds for that reason maybe in the box seat, I genuinely think a side like Wet Spam or Southampton where he would be odds on to play could be better moves for him, they can pay plenty whilst he plays plenty. And then if he continues to fly Looserpoo will probably spunk £100m on him! (Of course if he wants to win stuff he'll go else where!)

Bah!
