Relax. Finishing 4th has been enough for years so of course we think we should be in it! However rules are rules so we will try again nxt season.

I thought it was 15 seasons in a row lol

You guys should just take it on the chin and stop winging like spoilt kids. If you had played better over the 38 you would have been 3rd and not in the Europa... It's not Chelsea's fault it's your own!

    Deal with it!

  9. Actually, if we had got into the CL, I think there would have been more of an incentive on the top tier of teams to take our best players, in order to undermine us, especially Bale, who was so dangerous the last time we featured in that competition.

As for Modric, I've said before that I have no qualms about us losing him, as I think we can get in players of equal quality. If we can get £40 million for him, I say we should let him go, and look to build the team as a whole.

Whether Bale wants to leave or not, I think Levy will hold on to him for at least another season, unless someone comes in with an immensely stupid offer - £60 million, plus. Bale doesn't have the temperament to do a "Berbatov" on us, nor can I see him sulking like Modric did, at the start of last season.

There was a time when THudd was more important to us that Modric, and I look forward to him regaining his fitness and re-establishing himself back in the first XI.

I hope that Levy and Redknapp can use the immense sense of injustice suffered by us tonight to galvanize the team into working hard next season. We don't need to spend hugely, we merely need to spend wisely, as Pardew has shown with the Toon. When they lost their top three players last season many believed they'd struggle to stay up, let alone finish 5th (above the Chavs).

I refuse to feel negative about any of this. I'd certainly rather be in our position and with our squad (even without Modric or Bale) than in 'Pool's position and with their squad.

HIAG, I agree with most of your post, but we've done what Newcastle have done already. We've bought good quality players over the last couple of years with out spending much. The reality is that it's not enough. Sometimes you get what you pay for,and in football, the real top drawer quality costs that little bit more. It's that quality that would have secured us CL football by finishing 3rd. VDV is the only player we've brought in, who has that real edge. We need more like that to make the difference, but unfortunately that means spending a fair amount of cash.

There are many factors involved in why things have gone the way they have this season, but one of the major elements for me, is failing to use the last 3 transfer windows to bring in the talent we need.levy has hoped that a couple of players would give us the extra push, but had failed to notice everyone around us strengthening more than us.

Hopefully after a second time of being faced with this reality, he'll spend the money on what's needed. We have to spend to get CL football. It's the quality of squad depth over 38 league games that will secure it, we're far from that.

Other wise we float around this position at best. If our best players then kick up a fuss and want to leave, we're in a major transition process where a couple of mediocre 6th-8th place finishes might be a reality.

And all of this stems from not buying those players we've needed for so long.

Not splashing that cash could actually be more detrimental in the long run.

And already this morning there's reports of modric to Real.

And we're linked with a Brighton defender. Must have been our back up for vertonghen.

And the small matter of 4 league positions and a whole 17 points in front of you! Yeah, sure we're in the same position <doh>

It's been our worst season since the 50s or something ridiculous in fairness.

    Who knows what will happen?

Saying there'll be a player exodus is premature.

Both ourselves and Liverpool don't have much to get excited about, yes they won a cup but in honestly it doesn't mean much, much like when we won the carling cup a few years back, yes it was a great day as we beat chelsea however it was more to do with the relief of actually just winning something again.

For Liverpool it gives their fans an excuse to say "at least we won a cup" but in reality they are thinking "what a crap season we had".

As for us, yes players may leave, Modric may well feel its time to move on and Bale may well feel he wants to play for one of the top european clubs, if that happens, it happens.

This is spurs we're talking about, we have been through much worse and bounced back and if you look at our history of signing players, we have always been able to attract top class players so I wouldn't worry too much about bouncing back.

Also, Its a sad fact that players feel they have to be playing in the champions league or they want to move club as both ourselves and liverpool are big clubs that can attract players regardless of being in the champions league, or not, yet as soon as things start to look a little uneasy, certain players look elsewhere.

Anyway, lets not over react and start predicting doom and gloom as we need to see how levy and arry react to this situation first as thankfully we have a chairman that actually cares about the club and on field success so there will be a reaction.

  15. Thanks for the comments Saints - both here and on the Goons board as well...... And funnily enough, we also wonder why the deluded multitude from Klanfield seem to have this exaggerated opinion of their worth!!
