I hope that Levy and Redknapp can use the immense sense of injustice suffered by us tonight to galvanize the team into working hard next season. We don't need to spend hugely, we merely need to spend wisely, as Pardew has shown with the Toon.
HIAG, I agree with most of your post, but we've done what Newcastle have done already. We've bought good quality players over the last couple of years with out spending much. The reality is that it's not enough. Sometimes you get what you pay for,and in football, the real top drawer quality costs that little bit more. It's that quality that would have secured us CL football by finishing 3rd. VDV is the only player we've brought in, who has that real edge. We need more like that to make the difference, but unfortunately that means spending a fair amount of cash.
There are many factors involved in why things have gone the way they have this season, but one of the major elements for me, is failing to use the last 3 transfer windows to bring in the talent we need.levy has hoped that a couple of players would give us the extra push, but had failed to notice everyone around us strengthening more than us.
Hopefully after a second time of being faced with this reality, he'll spend the money on what's needed. We have to spend to get CL football. It's the quality of squad depth over 38 league games that will secure it, we're far from that.
Other wise we float around this position at best. If our best players then kick up a fuss and want to leave, we're in a major transition process where a couple of mediocre 6th-8th place finishes might be a reality.
And all of this stems from not buying those players we've needed for so long.
Not splashing that cash could actually be more detrimental in the long run.
And already this morning there's reports of modric to Real.
And we're linked with a Brighton defender. Must have been our back up for vertonghen.
