Ak, I suppose now that I have booked a holiday one of the Icelandic volcanos will start playing up? Are there any signs of that happening?

Al - you moved recently then? Dont talk to me about BT/ Sky - I moved just over a year ago and I had to wait two months to get phone and broadband connexion - oh but they got the TV up pretty fast as they get paid a lot for that - only once it is up and running

We are just responsible for their travel arrangements, fastest possible means for the worst case, including chartering aircraft if we need to!

Aaah, the infamous Sky set up!

When I moved house last year, we had so much trouble setting up our Sky. Previous owner had Virgin, and the Virgin engineers had destroyed all the BT connections inside and outside. So BT, on behalf of Sky had to repair the phone lines. Sounds simple enough?! It was actually left down to me to liaise with both Sky and BT to organise the repair. That was interesting, what with my in-depth detailed knowledge of the telecommunications industry... On 2 separate occasions, I booked a days holiday to be at home for the BT engineer, who didn't turn up.

They eventually turned up at 8am, on a day we hadn't planned. I had already left for work, so my girlfriend told the engineer she needed to leave for work soon and she was told "oh don't worry, this will only take a minute". The BT "engineer" then proceeded to drill through our fuse box. 4 hours later, the electrician had finished repairing our fuse box, the BT "engineer" had put in a phone line and my girlfriend eventually got to work.

We only had to wait another month for them to "activate" the phone line (which what I gathered, involved them phoning it. I can certainly understand why that takes a month).

I did manage to get a lot out of them though, because they were so incompetent. Because they state that the phone line and broadband are free add-ons to the TV, they can take as long as they like setting up, because it technically isn't eating at your contract. Seems ridiculous to pay full price each month for your Sky package, whilst for a quarter of the year, a third of the package doesn't work. They caved in eventually though. Constant bombardment. That's the only way you can get anything.

Ouch now that is painful, we were told that someone was going to come out to our house as well, so I organised my shifts so I would be off, to be told 2 days previous that they would not be coming out! Don't you just love them!

Just back from lunch and noted a translation is required from the Latin. It means:

The cat dies in Natal, a Yorkshire soap powder....or something like that.

Hope Yorkie is hosting a <party><party> this evening.

Hope there's a few of these, Yorkshire. Whenever anyone asks, I can never suggest anything I want, but two or three months after the birthday has gone I can generally come up with quite a lengthy list.

I had the same thing. Basically the sales women who came round with the heavy sales pressure, assured me i could keep the same email ( technically only as it turned out0 and switch over to sky broadband drectly from virgin.... she just omitted to tell me about the.... month delay.

I had a <grr> call to a very sympathetic call centre guy ( sounded english ;) ) and did get my broadband in two weeks. after much <steam> and :headbang: . When I formally complained the guy said it was a "training" issue for the sales team... oh yeah..... I think I got a small remibursement.... wish I'd stayed with virgin though... as I have had many occasions of loss of connection and neither sky nor BT seem to want to be responsible.
