I’m a bit out of touch with this now but Wallsend (I know) used to be canny for absolute beginners to go for a pay as you play round. Didn’t have to be a member and the course was decent enough to get a feel for playing without the proper golfers getting impatient and upset at their course getting ruined
Maybe worth checking out unless there’s something nearer anyone knows about.
Brilliant, thanks marra. Anyone else have anywhere else closer, but will definitely keep Wallsend in mind.

Sharpley Golf Club near between Houghton and Seaham is a nice course and they have Kevin Jackson the Professional there, who is top draw...really good with the young-uns . Also, I for an absolute beginner I would consider a few rounds at Cocken Lodge...its a par 3 course with a couple of par 4 holes. When I'm home I take my grandson there. Good luck wherever he plays, its a great game.

Good post and very accurate information

Those short par 3 courses are perfect to start out on. Highly recommended for young players.

Golfing season well and truly here in my neck of the woods. Been out twice this week without having to cross a pop up stream! Also paid my annual subs tonight :emoticon-0107-sweat. Felt the need to book in 3 rounds this week, as I am off work, to justify my revised bank balance :emoticon-0101-sadsm

Masters starts tomorrow, one of my favourite sporting events of the year. Nothing beats a Masters Sunday when it comes down to the wire.

Any picks?

Got a sweepstake going at work and a few each way bets on Clarke, Harmon and McCarthy at good odds.
It feels so open this year, loads in that field could win it. I just hope it is nip and tuck all the way with several in contention come late Sunday…

Ludvig Åberg might surprise a few as he has been steady since turning pro and think it wont be long until he lands one of the majors.

Greens looking tricky here. Course as always beautiful.

I played 18 early today. Had my putter regripped and for the first time had one of those super stroke grips. Bloody awful. Left if in the pro shop to have it removed.

Really looking forward to it. Course has played tough this week. Would love to Aberg put a couple of early birdies together and get on a run. Cracking player. Hojberg too but looks a bit too far back to me.
What's the weather forecast for over there tonight? Is it all clear or still windy
