I personally would never recommend American golf. They'll sell you something not suitable and with the biggest mark up. You're far better going to a local pga shop with a good fitting service.
I am a member at Brancepeth. David Fletcher is okay, but he does not do Cobras which I am leaving towards. He also prefers to do his fittinge inside. I am a bit old school I want to hit them on a range.

For me a key aspect of 'ftting' is hitting balls on the range. Once you know the key faults in you swing i am a natural hooker, (or in fighting this tenancy blocks itvright) who also hits the ball high. When I get it right this results in s high draw. What i am finding us that a stiff shaft with 9° loft, does produce a lower more penetrative flight. I just have to keeping working on my swing to stop the pulls.
I have done a lot of work to my swing with a pro this year and it is now in a much better place. I then treated myself to new clubs, and results have been impressive since I picked em up last month. one thing I had to consciously do was open my right hand up and stop it smothering the ball on impact. It felt weird at first, but a bigger size grip has really helped cut out smothering the ball /hooking off the tee. I can now hit a long high draw. I used to be a power fader only.
Best fitting i've had was when I bought Ping clubs, I was invited down to Thonock GC in Gainsborough. Really did a thorough professional job and really enjoyed those clubs.........until some toe rag stole them from my car.
Went along to a windy day, a 1 or 2 clubber, with a 'tracker' behind me.. Gone for the Cobra... Next irons and hybrids..
Just watched a documentary on John Daly, I knew bugger all about him beyond him being a big hitting lad with a beer belly, turns out he's a bit of a gem. Really nice bloke and if he'd had the privileged upbringing of your typical pro golfer he could have been one of the best because he had the talent.
Didn't see the documentary. But one story i heard was; in one of his first wins he was being followed in his round by a father and his two young daughters. The father died (lightening strike?) Daly put a nig chunk of his winnings in a educational trust for the girls. They both graduated into good jobs. Daly as usual was strapped for cash at the time, when isn't he... but still made the donation.
Will stars finally align for Mcllroy at Masters was a headline from the BBC Sports page, I hope so and he has the game for this but always seems to disappoint at the Masters. Anyone watching this, starts today. My least favourite of the Golf majors but will still be watching. Scheffler is the one on form and I think the one to beat. I wouldnt be surprised with one of the LIV golfers doing well - all in the field are world class.
Agree with a lot of what you say.... the manufactured 'tradition' of the masters is very american. The LIV players will also be trying twice as hard, busting a gut to win...
Good post, Farnboro. It’s great to see you about. I’ve spread my pennies across 3 players. Day, who I think his nudging his way towards a title. He looked in good nick in the knockout tournament just gone. Ancer (LIV) Always flatters to deceive but he’s big odds and I back him every time. Cantlay is my last selection, super talented and on his day he’s right up there.
I think Cameron Smith will have a good Masters, but I do think Rory will do well, he needs to be in the mix after the first two rounds, he always seems to have at least one stinking round early on in Augusta...fingers crossed its his year he will get his hands on the Green Jacket
