What the F is this Clown Craze!?

I heard about it a little about it a few months ago. Think it was in America or something. Saw last night it's all over the UK, including Norwich and Kings Lynn!

First one ever that I can recall hearing about was in Northampton and he was finally 'unmasked' 3 years ago tomorrow
The rest of the UK is painfully slow to catch on if they've had three years to 'practice'!
I agree, though, it is and can be very disconcerting and scary for kids, lone women and the elderly and frail.
