Freddie Flintoff receives £9m compensation from the BBC for serious injuries received in Top Gear. These serious injuries include broken ribs and facial injury. Sorry, how ludicrous is this. The BBC is a joke, and it is your, if you pay, money.

Doesn't the commercial wing of the BBC sell BBC content originally produced for and aired on licence-fee funded TV and Radio?
 
It's still a very large amount of money that could have been used for something else. Did Richard Hammond get a payout for his injuries?

I think this quote from the BBC's Director General, referring to how the Corporation views the £2 billion annual revenue generated by its commercial arm, rather gives the game away:
“This is central to our strategy for the years ahead as we seek to secure the investment and the partners to make the best possible programmes in a highly competitive market, while generating maximum financial returns for licence fee payers”, said BBC Director-General Tim Davie (my italics). I.E the £9 million in damages paid to FF is a direct hit on licence fee payers in the sense that "the financial returns" to them represented by the Beeb's commercial income are reduced by that amount. No doubt the Beeb has gold-plated insurance, but that has to be paid for ........

Norfolk's Alfie Hewett won his third Wheelchair Tennis Masters singles title to finish the season as world number one.
The 25-year-old, who went into the event second in the rankings, came through 4-6 6-1 6-3 against Argentina's world number three Gustavo Fernandez.
Topping the rankings "was one of my goals", said Hewett.
"When I sat down at the beginning of the year I said I wanted to finish the year as number one."
It was a second title of the week for Hewett, who also partnered fellow Briton Gordon Reid to victory in the doubles final on Saturday.
The 18-time Grand Slam winners came from a set and 2-0 down against Fernandez and Spain's Martin de la Puente, the defending champions, to first level the match and then win 10-6 in a championship tie-break for their third Masters title.
It was also a third Masters singles title for Hewett after victories in 2017 and 2021 and his seventh singles crown of 2023.
"I'm obviously super happy," he added.
"To be able to say we did it is something I'm extremely proud of - and to win the Masters singles title at the same time is an even more special feeling."
