Swansea City could be in need of a loan star to help them shine in the second-half of the season, boss Michael Laudrup has admitted.
The Dane has cited the example of Gylfi Sigurdsson as the impact a short-term signing can bring as he looks to keep the Liberty Stadium side well clear of Premier League worry.
Injuries have hit Laudrup’s squad after muscle strains for Jonathan de Guzman and Dwight Tiendalli took the casualty-list to eight at Swansea, although Laudrup revealed there is hope of the pair plus Roland Lamah and Pablo Hernandez as well as Nathan Dyer and Michel Vorm all being in contention for the visit of Tottenham next week.
Laudrup, though, insists he is not looking for players to make up numbers but to make a difference as he hopes for his men to consolidate a midtable position as well as attack the Europa League and FA Cup – and that he is very much open for that to be via the loan market.
And while he played down speculation of progress for a permanent deal for Tom Ince, talking up his talent but refusing to speculate on the possibility of pressing ahead with a deal, he admitted the club would also be prepared to look all over the continent for a new signing boost in the coming window.
Sigurdsson arrived in Swansea’s first year in the Premier League, scoring seven goals in 17 games following a January 2012 loan move from Hoffenheim, and Laudrup said: “(You can) take players on loan who could come and help you or any club for the last four months of the season - the best example at Swansea was Sigurdsson who came in really had a huge impact and helped Swansea in a difficult moment and scored some goals.
