Surely, 'pundits', 'experts' call them what you like, are supposed to offer a bit more insight into the game than you or I can do. Isn't that the point!?

I personally disagree and from what most of us post when criticising pundits and commentators what we are actually wanting them to offer is........

........a kindred thinker. Confirmation. Justification.

By that I mean most people these days complain if they disagree with what the pundit says and laud the pundit who says something they agree with.

What they actually want from a commentator or pundit is to watch a game and be able to say/think Thats what I thought or to say/think See, he says the same. Maybe a modern thing but its like a pat on the back for the viewer or a confirmation that they aren't thinking differently.

Thats why when Andy Townsend comes out with such garb or gives Jack Wilshere MOTM..again, everyone criticises him. If he spent the match saying Jack Wilshere is giving the ball away too much or Sturridge is far too selfish then he would get a degree of acceptance :)

Like if you watch a game with a friend and he says something you thought you just nod your head. If he says something you disagree with you get distracted and 'debate' followed by a period of looking for events to confirm / support your argument and thus don't follow the game in the same way as you were.

I do agree with the whole 'in game' interviewing though. That is just stupid, as is sectioning off areas of the pitch pre game and half time to wheel the FA cup onto said area to do your punditry. No idea why they have to fill the touchlines with the pundits these days. Stick them back in the boxes inside like they used to be.

I remember the first time I noticed an 'in game' interview. Can't remember if it was F1 or touring cars or something but they were interviewing the driver....while he was driving. I was thinking WTF??

No. Why would you think that? Experts are for half time/full time analysis. Excitable co-commentators are brilliant.

I'm not a fan of the draw being on a Monday night, much preferred Sunday aftenroons.

Also - this 15 mins chat on the beginning just makes it worse!

But finally, it looks like it's giong to get underway
