Hope it was not too intimidating for the fans last night. I recall the horror from a dozen or so years ago when Saints fans were in the ground for well over an hour as the forces of law and order had to restrain huge mobs of mindless louts, no doubt encouraged by the thugs watching close by, before SFC fans could be let out.

It actually wasn't too bad after the match, said we could leave about 15 minutes or so after the ground largely emptied. We did have to stand in the rain until all of us were together though.

Walk back was fine, couple of small groups of skates on the way but at the barriers with no real intention of actually kicking off and they just got the Thornhill treatment.

By all accounts there was a few clashes pre match which is why we didn't get there for ko presumably but I didn't actually see any real trouble.

I don't think I've ever seen so much police at a match, the walk back we had a rolling block of about 40 meat wagons. Hate to think how much it all cost.

I wonder how much the policing cost last night. I haven't seen that many in one place since 2004's bumper christmas free for all at the Hilton. Did we have to draft them in from other counties? <laugh>

Yes Kent, and Thames Valley (I think)

Some Kent Police were treated to a rendition of "you've had your day out, now **** off home" on the way back too <laugh>

Some of ours definitely got in without tickets too, watched the match from a stairwell. Bodies everywhere when Danny puts us one nil up.

Not sure that was called for!!!! Not even funny as these guys were only doing their job, and more than likely would have preferred to be at the gym pumping iron.

Oh get a grip ! It was funny - pretty good natured banter singing after the game, police officers took it in good part and anyway they love the overtime and extra's they get on these occasions.

No wonder there is a dearth of genuine comedians from the South Coast, compared to Liverpool or Glasgow, if this is funny.

Er.....no.

To win this trophy Southampton have to beat a team as good as Liverpool or Manchester City at some stage. I think it is winnable as a one-off, although eminently loseable, but City will have their minds focused on winning the CL the first time, keeping up with Liverpool in the PL, so will play a lot of fringe players, so it is possible.
