Yes. Me. I'm admiring what the EU is doing regarding Ukraine. Gives me hope for the future in this new Cold War.
We are truly becoming more like the USA when it comes to the nature of our democracy. Not just the lecterns and seals of office, draped flags and all that nonsense. But in the cult of personality, which now overwhelms our old standards of honour and decency. Boris Johnson's personal charisma is not only one of the foundations of his popularity - something I admit I was swayed by in the past, but it is now used by his allies to excuse any behaviour. Personal misuse of public money for the redecoration of his living quarters at No.10 Sabotaging the rules on ministerial behaviour to get a chum off the hook Calling the opposition leader a nonce lover Breaking the law with a culture of drinks parties during the pandemic Repeatedly lying to Parliament All waved away by folk who are still bewitched by his bumbling overgrown schoolboy charm. Well, it's just Boris, isn't it... let's move on. Sadly however in my opinion, Parliament itself must shoulder some of the blame for the building of Boris Johnson into such a cult figure. It was Parliament which set its face against the Will of the British People after the 2016 EU referendum. Such was its opposition to making Brexit happen, that it took the empowerment of a political sledgehammer such as Bojo to force Parliament to comply, rather than be allowed to perpetually deny a democratic decision made over four years previously. The Election of Johnson's government with an 80 seat majority in 2019 was a direct consequence of Parliament previously acting against the decision of the People. Had Theresa May been able to 'get Brexit done' we would not find ourselves where we are now. Parliament decided to play Frankenstein with British democracy, and Boris is their monster.
