There is no way the EU Commission can tell the UK what UK products it can or cannot supply to shops within the UK.

They couldn't even do that when we were members of the EU.
And I don't care if they have a piece of paper that they think says they can.

There is NO risk of chilled meat products crossing the EU border.
They are acting in bad faith. Because they want Brexit to fail.

Not a bad article tbh, but it uses lots of long clever words (which no doubt its intended audience laps up) to say some very simple things.......

It was not possible to solve every potential problem before leaving the EU and some issues still remain. However it was vital for British democracy that we honoured the result of the referendum. The EU wanted to keep dragging the process on and on until a solution was found to every issue (which would have been an indefinite process) because they didn't want us to leave.

We needed to leave, having tried to solve as many problems as possible and then carry on the process of trying to sort out any further problems in due course. That is what is still happening now and the majority of the British public understand that, which is why the Tories still have a poll lead.

As I've said elsewhere, the success or failure of Brexit cannot be measured for at least 10 years in my opinion. Some of the problems are not solvable and may still remain at that point but that is just the price of democracy I'm afraid.

There is NO solution that solves every problem and keeps everybody happy, so all that can be done is to honour the result of the referendum and then make the best of that position.

I'm not much of a traveller in international terms.
Never been to a sovereign foreign country except the Republic of Ireland. And I did not feel uncomfortable there as a tourist.

I would have liked to visit some countries in mainland Europe, but never got round to it.
Now it's more complicated than just getting on the Eurostar, I'm not interested in going there anymore.

And Independent Scotland will mean a closed border.
It is a closed border between NI and the ROI that I find totally unacceptable.
A closed border across the Irish Sea is just as bad, even if it is not as visible to the naked eye as a fence with checkpoints.
As a tourist I did not recognise a checkpoint on the Irish border once as I approached it in my car, and I nearly ran it by mistake.
That really scared me.

When countries close their borders, to me that sends a message that outsiders are not welcome.
They might be tolerated, for economic reasons. But they are not wanted anymore.
If that is the price for redressing injustices of the past, then so be it I suppose.

You were right to say you know where you aren't wanted. A huge proportion of Scottish people are anglophobes and they would rather you didn't enter their country.

I have recently spent a lot of time in Kilmarnock over the last few years. I'm a Geordie and we have always had a decent relationship with the Scottish people. Not anymore, on several occasions I was told to **** off back to England and the likes. It's a tricky one because I have Scottish friends who are unionists and they are probably more proud to be British than me or you would ever be. Then there's the nationalists who want independence and away from England at any cost. The SNP have a lot to answer for with their race-baiting politics.

If another referendum happens within the next year or two, Scotland will vote NO,again. Another Indy referendum wouldn't be on the agenda if it wasn't for the SNP. The Scottish people are starting to get a bit bored with it now and would rather they concentrated on putting the country back together again than be put through another referendum.

I did wonder how long it would be before the SNP would lose enough seats to make even a SNP/Green Coalition unviable.
Didn't happen this time, but I think it will.
They've lasted longer than I thought they would, mostly due to Labour's decades of impotence.

I think the Union will survive for a while longer - all four parts of it.

I've been told the same, asked why I don't F*** off back to Scotland. Never bothered me. English people love me just as much as I love them, who cares abahrt a few idiots? Lots of Scots hate each other, same applies to your lot.

The only border between the UK and everywhere else that isn't under the sea is the land border between NI and the ROI.
There is absolutely no need for that to be a 'hard' border or a closed border ever again.
Diplomats and Statesmen acting in good faith should be capable of ensuring that.

It's clear though that some in the EU don't want any border between NI and ROI ... because they want a United Ireland (inside the EU).
Then they can have their Irish Sea border - an illusion at present, which they are hoping to make real by political meddling.
However, nobody now has the right to meddle in internal UK affairs.
Not Biden (with all due respect) or Macron (with no respect whatsoever).

Who is it that wants to have a border (other than a political one) between the UK and the EU. The only need for one is to protect the EU's single market area, so why is this an issue for the UK ?
If the EU want a border then it's up to them to sort out how to do it. If they want a hard border that will jeopardise the surrender agreement, sorry Good Friday Agreement, then that's their doing. If they genuinely don't want a hard border, as the UK doesn't, then don't have one.
The EU have tried to blame the UK for the problem and are still trying to use the threat of a return to violence to score political points. We need to keep standing firm and tell them where they can go.
For all his faults, I am very thankful that Boris is our PM rather than Corbyn, May or Starmer.

WHY are crops rotting in the fields?
WHY do we have no lorry drivers?
WHY are important blood tests being postponed?

These things are NOT the fault of Brexit.

It was known by everybody that the Brexit process would cause imbalances in our infrastructure here in the UK.
These potential problems were not secrets or surprises.
What have Government departments been doing to counter them for months on end???
The Government is supposed to govern, for pity's sake!

Boris, your ministers are incompetent.
They've been asleep on the job.
Crop pickers, lorry drivers, essential medical equipment.
Measures could have been taken to minimise all these problems.
But what have we had instead?
Traffic light nonsense about where people can go on holiday.

NOT GOOD ENOUGH PRIME MINISTER.
Pull your f**king finger out and fix these serious problems.
Make it worth people's while you bungling buffoon.

The shortage of lorry drivers is a direct result of Brexit, and will continue, because long-distance lorry driving is a sh1t job, I know, I did it for a short time. The crops are rotting in the fields because of a shortage of East European workers because of B****t, and the Brits don't want to do it, and when they try they can't last the pace. Blood tests I don't know about. The clever "Project Fear" soundbite was repeatedly used to silence fears that anything like this would happen. And it worked, it "Got Brexit Done".

The blood test shortage is down to unavailability of the little glass bottles the blood goes into - not sure if this is down to lack of haulage drivers or the manufacturing of the bottles ?

It is a direct result of the Government failing to realise there was a problem, and dealing with it promptly.

Wasn't anybody in Whitehall looking into this?
Wasn't anybody at the Transport Department paying attention?

You can't just cut ties with the EU and then sit back and let "the market" sort things out.
You have to be ready to make adjustments to regulations or taxes in order to keep vital parts of infrastructure functioning.
That's what Ministries are for, isn't it?

Chinless wonders, the lot of them.
Haven't got a clue.
I haven't voted Labour since 1987. But I might do next time around.
