Most visitors go for a weeks holiday. Driving to Spain is not a viable option, especially with the high chance of industrial action or civil unrest on the way through France.
I'm surprised some are so blasé with other people's livelihoods.
Are you advocating that the government should have stepped in to save the jobs of Thomas Cook employees as well as help the locals in the poorer areas of Europe?
No, I am against those who come up with ideas that are bound to increase the poverty in the EU.

So you're happy for UK citizens to lose their jobs so you get your Brexit, but you'd be upset if Europeans lost their job if we try to fight climate change.

You know very well it is impossible to help in every situation. What you don't do is exacerbate problems of poverty and unemployment in EU countries by added further to their woes.
It would be the EU's decision to not safeguard EU jobs if they failed to negotiate sensibly. The UK is perfectly willing to enter into a trade deal with the EU, the blame firmly lays with Barnier and his chums.

Are you happy for even a single UK citizen to lose their job over a no-deal Brexit? Your government has already admitted there will be huge job losses, so no need to parrot out the usual 'Project Fear' nonsense.

There is a world of difference between the two. You seem to be advocating further permanent job losses in areas of the EU with already high unemployment and poverty. On the other hand Brexit is likely to lead to a minimal and temporary amount of job losses, if the EU remains closed to a sensible deal. The UK has proved consistently that it has the right conditions to be able to create jobs, which is in complete contrast to many countries on the continent.
The UK will remain at near full employment which is the envy of most EU countries.

You cannot argue with facts. UK employment rate is at a record high 76.1 %
Unemployment falling below 4% for the first time in 44 years. Wage growth in the last 3 months highest for 10 years.
Compare these excellent figures to Spain, one of those countries you seem to advocate should suffer further job losses.

These EU figures would be much worse if the UK had not found thousands of jobs for EU citizens.

This thread is discussing suggested action on environmental issues and the subsequent consequences of such action. It is easy to suggest cures to save the planet when others are being asked to suffer disproportionately. Maybe more thought should be applied in quick fix theories.
There is no quick fix, and I have not heard anyone suggest that there is. We now know that two of the countries that will be affected by the loss of Thomas Cook were prepared to put up most of the £200M, but the UK refused to play their part. The UK government is not helping people SH anywhere on this issue, not people in southern Europe or the 9,000 people from the UK that have been cast aside. How can anyone expect anything sensible on the environment from a government in such turmoil?
